| ninozara Ogler+ ![]() Cheshire, United Kingdom | #31 I couldn't see any difference in colour between the characters, and goodies are usually pretty/handsome/cuddly while the baddies are ugly. The Disney films started with remakes of old fairy tales, which were European, hence the Caucasian features...then it moved onto 'historically' based (Pocahontis, Mulan, Anastasia, Hercules) - but a lot are based in the 'Old world' or a long time ago, it was part of the charm. The recent film, with an African-American had a much more modern setting (but had a basis in a classic fairy tale). A fully African, or Caribbean princess might follow. It wouldn't be that hard to adapt the race/nationality in a lot of the old fairy tales, but I suppose that they never really thought about it then. | ||

| spellcheck Newbie ![]() Santa Barbara, California | #32 @windstorm Said ![]() Has anyone noticed that Disney's aka animated fairyale/princess movies feature women of all different races except for African-American? For instance; #1.)(Caucasian): Snow White, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. #2.)(Asian): Mulan #3.)(Arabian): Aladdin #4.)(Native American): Pocahontas #5.)(African -American): None (Except for the real-life Cinderella movie played by Brandy, but I am talking about the animated films) Also, there is no known Hispanic princess(that I know of) Has anyone else noticed this? But "except" for african american? you do realize that there are more than 4 races in this world. lol | ||

Good catch...I forgot about that..and that scene where Herbie gets a rim job from the Beetle behind the 7-11? It doesn't seem so hot anymore.

It makes stereotypes into little impressionable minds. I don't think that's quite right. Snow White - White Evil Queen - just as white Sleeping Beauty - White Maleficent - greenish/whitish? Cinderella - White Evil Stepmother - White Belle - White Gaston - White, maybe a little darker than the others in town(note he's also supposed to be good looking) Ariel - White Ursula - Purple Aladdin - tan Jafar - tan, and possibly lighter Mulan - Asian Hun villians - about the same, but they're clearly uglier and all have yellow eyes for some reason Pocahontas - Native American villian (I can't remember his name) Whiter than any of the other Brits Tiana - Black Villain - tan? I only did the princess movies, but it seems to me their skin color runs the spectrum. There's even skin tones you can't find in the natural world there.

Snow White - good guy and bad guy the same color Sleeping Beauty - hard to judge because villain has a weird color Cinderella - good guy and bad guy the same color Beauty and the Beast - villain maybe slightly darker, but again he's supposed to be handsome The Little Mermaid - hard to judge because the villain has a weird color Aladdin - villain is lighter Mulan - Same? the problem here is it's an entire ethnic group, and they're given weird features Pocahontas - villain is lighter Princess and the Frog - villain is lighter

The one's that turn out to be OK joes later in the stories don't really count.
