Tree huggers need to consider three questions.

1) If Earth is too warm, how much would you decrease the temperature?

2) How would you decide on a temperature?

3) Other than eliminating fossil fuels, how would you decrease the temperature?

Edit: After 124 responses to this question, we have a few posts, maybe three, which suggest that Earth should be cooler, and some which would be satisfied with stopping temperature change.

Nobody has suggested a way to kind consensus on a temperature.

Nobody, except for me, thinks the world can continue using hydrocarbon fuels and at the same time have a stable mean atmospheric temperature.

I dont think that there is a certain set temperature, it just needs to stop the dramatic warming.
It isnt as much of decreasing the temperature as it is keeping it stable.
There are a variety of ways to help stabilize the warming, something as simple as keeping your home nicely insulated, would help but there are many other ways.

I don't think this is really related to tree hugging so much as it it to global warming.

And It's not about decreasing the temperature, it's about not increasing the temperature to levels that will cause, flooding, draught, species extinction etc.

And on the third point, every emission should be taxed the amount it will cost to plant the amount of trees it will take to offset the emission. Simple

These questions are unrelated to "tree hugging" and, really, totally meaningless.

The problem is that humans are directly causing accelerated, drastic climate change.

I don't think we really need to worry about "global warming", because the world is going to end in 2012 anyway!

I believe in 2012 more then i believe in global warming. I mean do you know what will exactly happen when the planets aline??? Well, no one does! Our plants poles could shift... just a little bit... and change the whole world.

Actually, the planets have aligned about 9 years ago on May 5. nothing happened.

The Earth isnt exactly an oven with a dial.

If evil is my enemy, then I will fight against it. If evil is on my side, then evil is my friend. If it is simply the way of all human nature, are we then all evil?

Well, one tree hugger, aqualord88, thinks the Earth temperature at the moment should be Earth's temperature.

So far, no tree huggers, not even aqualord88, are willing to consider non-fossil fuel options for controlling Earth's temperature.

Nobody so far, not even jonnythan, is even aware of non-fossil fuel options for controlling Earth's temperature. Curious?

Let's add one question to the list. If people in Canada or Alaska want a warmer temperature, and people in Brazil want a cooler temperature, how will the tree huggers resolve the dispute?

link [news.bbc.co.uk] here is a promising story, at the moment solar energy is clunky and expensive to install.

I would set the global temperature back to whatever it was in the 1930's before we started blowing the s*** out of things.
