Do you find that you generally spend your time in the company of those with the same political leanings as yourself? Does your partner or family share the same views as you in politics? So say if your Father leans heavily to the right wing do you or did you have the same views? Or do you question whether this is right or wrong?

How much do you think you are influenced by the company you share, the environment you grew up in? Did you go the total opposite of your parents or grand parents views?

If your partner is on the other side of the political scale to you how do you get around this? or do you actually quite enjoy having a debate with those closest to you?

The people I hang around with tend to have political leanings all over the map.

I have noticed, though, that "the government should stay the hell out of my business" is the most prevalent ideology, if you want to call it that. Funny thing about this is that most of them have no idea there's a political party that represents this ideal. A bunch of them are huge fans of Ron Paul, who appears to be doing a great job introducing libertarianism to the masses.

Amazingly enough, I've found that I've got similar leanings to my great-grandfather.

But most people I know have different leanings.

I've always stood for my own political beliefs no matter if everyone I knew or now know are opposed. Debates on this have happened often, but not anymore for we have all learned to respect that not everyone will share the same views.

hmm, i think i have about an equal number of friends and family with similear and opposite opinions to myself.

i love the debate so thats good for me.

i think it really depends on the particular issue i don't know many people who would catogorise themselves as being on any political 'side' like liberal or conservative or any of that american nonsense that seems to be making headway throughout the world.

I think i am probably the most liberal in my family apart from my grand-mother whom i guess i get it from. Most of my family have been very Labour orientated, loving the communist ideal, however i think its a crock of s**t

I occasionally hear some things that i feel are out of turn amongst the people i am around, the occasional "all immigrants are robbing bastards who should be shot" etc. etc. It does change the way i feel about a person when i try and discuss why i find thier statement offensive however half the time i think they are just looking for a rise out of someone.

About half of my close friends have the same leanings as myself and funnily enough the other half holds the exact opposite view! Family-wise, my mom holds the same views as me, my Dad holds the opposite views and I'm a Daddy's girl too! My partner and I agree on most of the big picture things almost all of the time...

Its awesome fun discussing all the differences and nuances with family and friends... Most always it is not personal and it is very civilized- so its fun and informative... It has also helped me develop a healthy respect for all the different ideologies out there...

If work was so terrific, why do they have to pay you to do it?!

I don't mind debating politics on such as here, but if anyone in reality tries debating it with me, I refuse to do so. Really got better things to do than talk about something that most people have made their minds up about years ago.

My family is quite split. My mums side of the family is very left wing. My Grannie is a Communist, my Grandad used Labour meeting, my Great-Grandad also was personal friends with Ramsay McDonald.

My dads side are hard line tories. Although both my grandparents are from very working cla** backgrounds, they are both members of the Conservative party.

Based on this, i'd say i'm more influenced by my mums side. Most my mates have similar views, being a Student in Scotland almost everyone is a leftie tbh.

Most of my family doesn't get into the whole bit of politics. Except for my dad. And I wont get into political conversations with him.
