I remember someone on here saying they had this (can't remember who though sorry)

Thought this might interest you whoever you are!

We are all capable of "hearing" shapes and sizes and perhaps even "tasting" sounds, according to researchers.

This blending of sensory experiences, or synaesthesia, they say, influences our perception and helps us make sense of a jumble of simultaneous sensations.

Oxford University scientists found that people associate lower-pitched sounds with larger and more rounded shapes.

One of the team is now working with chef Heston Blumenthal to incorporate words into a new dining experience.

Synaesthesia itself is a rare and unusual condition thought to affect less than 1% of the population.

I think more people have a form of synaesthesia than they think.
I have it. I see the names of towns in colours and numbers in patterns (which is really common).

I have experienced that mildly. Like I can "hear" visual movements. For instance, alternating flashing lights "sounds" like of kind an ambulance siren "WOO woo WOO woo..."

It's not that I literally hear anything, it's more an impression really. I'm not sure how to describe it.

Also I associate certain tastes with colors, for instance, salty is yellow, sweet is pink, bitter is black, etc.

Certain musical sounds make shapes in my mind. I see them like a cartoon. It's hard to communicate it in type. Notes are coloured too, with higher notes more so.

I once saw a cook on TV talk about names and how 'Derek' made him think of fried bacon. I think alot of it has to do with associations we make in our own minds.

When I was younger I used to associate each letter of the alphabet with a character, each character getting progressively older with each letter, with a few exceptions. There was some sort of a story line, with some of the characters having relationships with other letters near them

I'll try to recall it if I can, it's been a while since I've thought of it...It doesn't start getting interesting until you get into the older characters...

A is a little baby boy with blond hair. B is also a baby boy, but with darker hair. C is a small child, a little girl I think. I don't remember D. E is a 5 year old, somewhat mischievious. F is an older boy. G is an older boy, in grade school. H is a boy with blonde hair, who is friends with I, who is younger than him, but they are best friends. I doesn't go anywhere without H. J is a young teenage boy, who likes looking for adventures. K is a young teenage girl, very girly. M is the mature one of two sisters, the other sister being N. M resented N's misbehavior and was constantly rolling her eyes and sighing at N's misdeeds. N had a crush on P, and was trying to use O to get to P. O had a crush on N, and N just used that fact to try to get O to help her get P's attention. P was completely oblivious to N's crush on him. P was a teacher of Q. Q's personality is very mild, shy, and nondescript. R is in love with S, but is too shy and intimidated by her to ever let her know. S works with T, but resents T's tendency to be very dominating and controlling. T oversees U and V, they are some sort of trainees or apprentices under T. W used to be a trainee of T, but broke free, and wishes to convince U and V to free themselves as well, but they are fully under T's influence, they are too weak to be on their own. X is a loner, and has no friends. Y has low self esteem, and her only wish is to be just like Z. Z is a very elegant feminine and classicly styled young lady.

Do you all think I'm insane yet?

Remarkable. Never heard anything like it.

You saw the basis of what we speak as a microcosm and representation of the characters you saw around you and used it as a kind of world map.

I think it just helped me remember the letters better somehow, to see them as people, and seeing the whole alphabet as a progressing story helped me learn the alphabet in order. That's my theory anyway, I really don't know.
