So I was just researching calpol and paracetamol (laura and I like calpol) and found something I don't really understand.

According to wikipedia paracetamol "doses above 200 mg/kg consumed over a single 24-hour period have a reasonable likelihood of causing toxicity".

But I'm sure each tablet has 200 mg of paracetamol in them, and you take two a time, up to four times a day, that makes 1600 mgs consumed in 24 hours.

How come I'm not dead yet?

Is This Ba** Really Strong Enough?

How many kilos do you weigh?

That dose for toxicity is 200mg PER kg of your body weight

mg/kg to me implies 200mg per kg, so for a 60 kg person it would have to be 12000mg for it to cause toxicity

Even if I told the world, it would not be enough coz it was not said to you..

Okey dokey, so 76.2 times 200 equals... 15240, take away 200 just to be on the safe side makes 15040, devide that by 200 aprox 75 paracetamols. so I can safely consume about 3-4 paracetamol per hour.

No, that much would still severely damage your liver.

You should take NO more than 8 in any 24 hour period.... Dr sent someone to hospital for taking 12 in that time period.

My friend tried to overdose, took 42 and was rushed to hospital to have her stomach pumped etc

Yeah, I don't think i've ever taken more than 8 in a day.

But the liver thing brings up something else I've always wondered, whenever I'm hungover I take paracetamol/resolve. So if thats going to damage my liver, which will already be pretty f**ked up from the alcohol, should i not take paracetamol or resolve?
