So, I wondered what everyone else thought about paddling their children. We recently moved and had to enroll our children into a new school. Well, I was filling out the paperwork and there was a sheet of paper that asked the school for permission to paddle your child when they do something wrong. It didn't alarm me at all..for we paddle our children when they are acting up...a swift paddle on the bum. So, we gave permission to the school. But I have not seen that before in my lifetime about paddling in schools. My father and Mother went through having paddlings in school..as well as my hubby and his cousins. I for one hadn't ever.

What do ya'll think? is it good thing or bad? do you think it helps our kids to be more respectful of adults and to have value on what they say and do? Makes them more aware of there actions? something to think about..as i have ever since friday when I enrolled the kids.

Absolutely not anyone ever layed a hand on my kid and id make it my lifes work to get them back.
Im the only one who dishes out a punishment to my kid and for a stranger to use a paddle is just abusive.

Sorry but thats my opinion.

Oh yeah when I was in school , paddling was very popular. In fact I think it may be what kept alot of us out of trouble most of the time , just the threat of having our asses smacked with a wooden board.

At that time a parent did'nt have to give permission for a teacher or administrator to paddle a child. I can remember my sister getting her a** busted everyday for about a week because she would not do her homework so after a couple of warnings the teacher began to give her three licks with the paddle everyday until she turned it in. Finally after the end of the week the teacher called Daddy and told him what was goin on, he ended up going to the school and paddling my sister with the teachers paddle. She never was late turning in her homework again.

I know for a fact my eldest will not act up because she can't stand to be paddled so she listens. but the younger ones..I am not so sure. Kaela has this mantality...I am going to do what i want regardless if i get into trouble or not. My son..well, he is all boy and is learning..still only five..so he has some time to make up...haven't put him all together just yet. He surprises me...still.

I lived in fear of being spanked/paddled. Never had to be more than once, but was always scared of it. The kids nowadays have no fear of anything...and it's not good. I think they could all use a swift kick in the bum...too bad my school doesn't have corporal punishment.

As far as the high school, i don't know if they have the same type of corporal punishment...lol. I don't think that they will be over spanked. Its on the bum, not the face, or the legs, or anywhere else. Just the bum. My 3rd grader witnessed someone getting a paddlin'. the person that got into trouble was paddled infront of the class, now that would be embarassing!!

like with a paddle?
jeez,
any old son of a b**** you felt he was in a position to paddle my kids would be feeling that paddle
across his head.
.............then i havn't got kids,
they're probably more annoying than i think.

Its not that kids are annoying...although every once in a while they get under your skin. Its the fact that they need to be punished for doing something extremely bad...like fighting on the playground or saying something mean to another student infront of the teacher...that type of stuff. ya know...the stuff that you would get introuble at home for..like not following the rules. but yeah...its a paddle with holes in it...and its about 2-3 feet long with a handle.

we paddle our children..just hadn't ever heard of a school nowadays still having that type of punishment.

Wow, I've never head about that before either, I think its a really good idea, but only before they are 14 year old or maybe abit younger. However, I only think it should be used if they are repeat offenders doing something bad. eg distrupting the class on several different occasssions and after getting a few warnings.
