If you watched the debates on Tuesday, this line from McCain probably caught your ear:

"[Obama] voted for nearly a billion dollars in pork barrel earmark projects, including, by the way, $3 million for an overhead projector at a planetarium in Chicago, Illinois."

That "overhead projector" was actually a replacement main projector for the planetarium's 40-year-old Zeiss Mark VI star projector.

As BoingBoing notes, planetarium projectors are not overhead projectors .

Have we really sunk so low as to repeatedly call legitimate educational and science funding "pork barrel spending"?

I laughed so hard McCain said that, first of all, IMO, the "overhead projector" as it was put, is a teaching tool, and I for one as a tax payer have no problems paying whatever for teaching tools. I have never been to Chicago, but I would assume one would have to pay to see planetarium projectors, in turn making up some the of the money spent, I could be worng, I have not really researched it, but don't museums usualy charge a fee?

The big pic is the type of projector the $3 million was for. It's the kind of projector that projects stars and constellations onto the interior dome of a planetarium.

Whether it's good or bad for McCain is really up to you. McCain was criticizing Obama for earmarking $3 million of the federal budget to help out a planetarium at a science center in Chicago.

Yeah when i heard that I was like 3 mil is not a lot when it comes to government spending. And it was for getting kids interested in science which means they could grow up and really benefit the country. McCain is a douche its like he doesn't like kids. like when he said the thing about how it was bad to make it mandatory for kids to have health insurance.

Why in the world did the "powers that be" put McCain in the republicrat seat? He uses the pork barrel spending routine like he thinks he's in stand up or something. If it were actually funny, I'd suggest sending his resume to Comedy Central.
