Obama strongly denounces former pastor
Candidate calls Wright's Monday appearance a 'spectacle'

Obama 'outraged' by ex-pastor
April 29: Speaking about Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s comments, Barack Obama says, “I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened by the spectacle that we saw yesterday.”
MSNBC

HICKORY, N.C. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama denounced his former pastor in his strongest language to date on Tuesday, saying he was outraged by Rev. Jeremiah Wright's assertions about the U.S. government and race.

"His comments were not only divisive ... but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate," Obama told reporters.

"Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed as a consequence of this," Obama said.

Obama was forced to address the issue again after another appearance on Monday by Wright to combat criticism of his controversial sermons that have, among other things, suggested the United States deserved some blame for the September 11 attacks and had had a hand in spreading AIDS to blacks.

"At a certain point if what somebody says contradicts what you believe so fundamentally and then he questions whether or not you believe it -- in front of the National Press Club -- then that's enough," Obama said, referring to Wright's suggestion that Obama's denouncement was what a politician had to say.

"That's a show of disrespect to me. It is also, I think, an insult to what we've been trying to do" on the campaign, he said.

There wasn't anything constructive about it yesterday," said Obama. "All it was was a bunch of rants that aren't grounded in truth and I can't construct something positive out of that."

What did Wright say to outrage him exactly?

What the hell else would he say?
"Oh I totaly agree with him in every way"
That would of gone over great.
He would definately lie in this situation. There's nothing else he could do without ruining his campaign. I don't know whether to believe him or not. But it makes no difference because I wouldn't vote for him.

He has made numerous controversial speeches over the last few days. Go to you tube and look for "Wright mocks JFK" just for starters...I'm sure it will lead you to some of his other comments as well. He's also made comments insinuating that Obama doesn't really disagree with him on some of these issues but just says what he has to say because he's a politician.

Ah, can't atm, listening to the footy.

American politics seem so f**ked up at the moment. I mean people talk about it all the time, but at the last election only 60% of the electorate voted. Whats up with that?

Initially Obama did not outright condemn him. If he was simply doing what was best for himself politically, he would have denounced him at the onset of this controversy.

O.K. babyjane I have to admit that after I watched the whole news conference and the news commentator came back on and started to trash Obama for his speech I went right for the remote to change the channel.....It was right then and there I realized that I was a closet Obama supporter....

That does not mean that I will vote for him...But...I do have a lot more respect for him...

Oh and Babyjane if my family finds out the I am an Obama supporter I am going to blame you ....good thing we live on different sides of the country.....

Okay now that that's outta the way I have to admit something too...I'm no longer a die hard supporter. We've got a long way to go until November and a lot could happen between now and then. He got my vote for the primary, but then I would rather see Flavor Flav be nominated than Hillary Clinton. Overall, I really like the guy, he's charismatic, charming and most importantly hot (j/k) but that's not all that is required for this job. I'm not 100% convinced that he's ready.

And, ...the news that Ron Paul is starting to shake things up again, gives hope that maybe the Republicans will have their own little tempest-in-a-teapot, and start paying attention to the voters instead of the media.....

This is going to be one f**ked-up election,....and the whole world is looking on, laughing....

And when I say that I'm not sure he's ready, I say that because at times I don't think he's tough enough. I think he's been way too easy on Hildabeast, although I understand that is partially due to the fact that his whole platform is "a different kind of politics", so while I'd love to see him just bitch slap her, at the same time, it's hard not to respect him for his restraint.
