Yesterday, I called a distant cousin who resides in Los Angeles. From what I understood, his life is s***ty. Also, his estranged wife is pregnant...with another man's child. I spoke of this at work, and they said that if she's devious enough, he could pay child support for a kid that isn't his. Could it or not?

He should order a paternity test and get a good lawyer.

I should add, financially, he is struggling. He barely has enough money for his house. He car was damaged and he has to drive his daughter's. The last time I came to California, he didn't have much food and I paid for his gas.

Hopefully the real father is rich and she will hound him and not your cousin.

He told me she's happy, despite their broken, though legally undissolved marriage.

It has been done in the past, a devious woman holding the wrong man hostage for child support. He can insist on a DNA test - so he knows either way, it's just as important that he know if it IS his, as it is to know that IT IS not his. Also, if he's broke, that probably is why he has not legally dissolved the marriage, but the sooner the better.
Unless he still has feelings for her.

Chances are if she's happy it wont come to that, once the fathers name is on the birth certificate there is no way she can claim from your cousin.

My cousin is pretty, pretty sure that he is not the father. They haven't been living under the same roof for six months, much less sleeping together.

For legal reasons, he really should file the divorce papers.

Nope, he has no feeling, in that way. Besides, when I was in L.A., he was dating other girls.

I'll mention that to him. In matter of fact, I've started reading about "divorce," on Wikipedia. I'll go further, though.
