Mother "too stupid" to care for baby

A mother had her baby taken from her after she was declared to be "too stupid" to care for her. The woman who can only be identified as Rachel has taken her case to the European Court of human rights. Rachel's daughter was born prematurely with chronic lung disease and other complications. The girl, only named as Baby K, is now 3-years-old and her mother his missed seeing her learn to crawl, walk and talk, all because she aparently lacks the intelligence needed to care for her baby. It's ridiculous. In a country where babies can be left with alcoholic or drug addict parents, how can they justify taking this baby away?

Seriously, what is it with Americans and Europe? We have lower crime rates including our homicide rate, lower prison incarceration rates etc. Why is it then that a portion of Americans then write us off as being crazy?

It doesn't go into much detail about how they came to that conclusion, so I can't say really whether it was a bad choice.

yes that sounds a bit extreme! (I didn't check the link for more details) I would think a care worker to help the mom might be a better option... and isn't that discrimination?

The article doesn't go into much detail about why her child was taken away. I know that I have never seen a case where this was done lightly.
The article seems somewhat biased against the social service.

Perhaps it was unjust, it's impossoble to tell from this information but i'm positive there is a lot more to it than 'too stupid'.

You can kill someone these days and get a second chance in life, why cant she with the right help.

They've not gone into much detail about why she was taken away but there's no proof that she's that stupid. She knew enough to know where she had to take her case and she looked after that baby for weeks after it came out of hospital. Would you rather be raised by a heroin addict who only cares about their next fix, or by an idiot?

are they looking for heroin addicts to take the baby? no....
oh and BTW i was raised by stoners.... its a good way to get money for doing nothing.

But still. The baby should never have been taken away from her like that. They'll take Baby K away from her mum but they'll leave Baby P with his.

that wasnt a very informative article... im not even sure what to think about it-- there's so many details i think we're missing to the story...
