I just got mobile web with Verizon Wireless. It's almost impossible to access with the phone I have! It's the Alltel Hue. I keep getting a message "insufficient memory for this action" and it's driving me nuts! I'd like to get full browsing but I have no way to try it without getting another phone. I was told this one doesn't have that capability (obviously). Is there a reasonably priced phone for full browsing? I looked at a Blackberry Storm 2 and it's over $600!

Anyone have experience with the Apple iPhone or a Blackberry of some type?

You don't get a free phone with your contract? I did

That phone, the Hue, doesn't have a real web browser. It's really for highly limited WAP sites only.

A modern smartphone is what you want. The iPhone, Moto Droid, HTC Hero, Palm Pre, or HTC Eris is what you really want if you want to do mobile web surfing.

Why would you be paying full price for a phone like that? If you extend your contract they give you a subsidy and then it's usually only around $100 - $200 to get a new smartphone.

Yes, I can get a free phone but it's usually a standard model. I've been looking at phones and just can't see getting another one with a 2 year contract.

Do you have any of the above? I know you use a phone to post.

All of those phones are going to be just as expensive if you don't have a contract, there's no way around that. Your choice is: get a contract, or pay full price (usually over $500).

I have the HTC Hero on Sprint. Kyahbean has the Palm Pre. Lili has the T-Mobile G1, which is similar to my Hero but a bit older. A couple of my friends have iPhones and one has a Blackberry Storm (which is a piece of s***).

If you try to get a smartphone without a contract, though, you're going to be spending big big bucks.

I've found some certified refurbished phones but I really don't feel comfortable with that.

Thanks for letting me know that. The reviews I read were awful. I've found bad reviews for every phone. Some people were complaining because they had to charge their phones each night. What's so terrible about that?

People are very very picky over their phones. It's like Apple vs Microsoft vs Linux. People choose their sides and then defend them with great vigor.

My only suggestion, if you do get a smartphone, is to stay away from anything running Windows Mobile. The Imagio, Touch Diamond, Touch Pro/Pro 2, Omnia, etc etc. Windows Mobile sucks and is very archaic compared to the other options (WebOS, which is on the Pre; Android, the Google OS, which is on the Eris, Hero, G1, MyTouch, Moment, and Droid; iPhone).

I read a "leak" that the Droid is coming to T-Mobile too, I might not have to switch to verizon to get one Verizon is so freakin' expensive.

I'm thinking about switching to AT&T because Verizon is not what Alltel was or CellularOne before that.

If I'm gonna have to renew a contract, I'd rather do it with a company I like and get a certified refurbished Apple iPhone for $50 (or $99 for a new one). What do you think?

If it's from Apple, I'd have no problem buying a refurb iPhone. I think you'd probably be pretty happy with the iPhone 3G.

I heard a rumor that Apple might be replacing the $99 3G with a $99 3GS, which might be worth waiting for. The 3GS is much, much, much faster than the 3G.

You can only get the iPhone with At&t, it doesn't work on any other networks without being hacked.
