I disagree with Melbourne being the best state, maybe the Victorian Economy is stronger and maybe the housing is more affordable, don't be decieved. The reason the economy is stronger is because of the boost in tourism, and the reason behind housing being more affordable is because Melbourne is such a hole people are leaving to other states to find better weather/living conditions, less traffic congestion/polution, tolls, taxes etc. One way of trying to get people to move back to Melbourne is to lower the price of renting a house.
When people construct these sort of surveys they only concentrate on certain aspects of Melbourne such as Entertainment and Tourism. And they also only account for one particular people in society, usually those who live within the City limits.
What about those of us who live an hour or so away, who have to put up with those horrible "freeways", that are soon to be toll ways thanks to Bracksy?
What about traffic congestion, and polution?
What about the weather?
Basically surveys about Melbourne just focus on the comopolitan of it all, what's here, what's there, and what the Government is going to build next, sums it up pretty much!

Untill you have lived in Melbourne for a fair while, you can't judge it. yes, the weather is random and you might just catch a bad week.
We have plenty of sunny days, sporting city of pretty much the world, awesome events, etc, etc.
Melbourne is the best in Australia, there is no doubt.
And yes a lot of people move to QLD and even perth, they might like to go to the beach.. that's about the only thing those states have over us.. some good beaches.
Whoopy dooo.

People who say melb is great are usually the yuppies or the cosmopolitan types.
Sure melb may have been voted best place to live two years in a row, but have you ever considered the demographics of the area the survey was actually taken from? When they talk about Melbourne, they're not talking about Melbourne as a whole they're talking about Melbourne inner city suburbs.
And the people who live here are of course going to say that Melbourne is great. Other things they concentrate on are tourists, let me ask you this, how often have you ever been to an unfamiliar part of the globe and stated how crap it was?
And sure maybe Melb is almost the sporting capital or at least trying to be, but maybe you should think about what that money could be better spent on. Melbourne doesn't need anymore stadiums, what we really need are better roads etc.
Have you ever been to QLD or WA? Have you ever driven around their towns? Qld is very relaxed, no one is in a hurry to be any where, it's stations are clean, people don't push and shove. And WA is exactly the same.
I think you should get out of you're dreery little town and experience Qld for what it really is before you cast judement.
