Johnny Cash

Cash felt great compassion for prisoners. He began performing concerts at various prisons starting in the late 1950s.[4] These performances led to a pair of highly successful live albums, Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison (196 and Johnny Cash at San Quentin (1969).

From 1969 to 1971, Cash starred in his own television show, The Johnny Cash Show, on the ABC network. The singing group The Statler Brothers opened up for him in every episode. Other notable artists who appeared on his show included Neil Young, Louis Armstrong, James Taylor, Ray Charles and Bob Dylan.

Of course, you can not think and/or talk about Johnny without mentioning June. We all should find love and love as deeply as they did.

He and June were awesome in so many way. They were the first people that Hank, Jr. saw when he woke up from his accident.

Love the prison concerts but at his most awesome with his 'American' recordings in his later years. His version of Nick Cave's 'The Mercy Seat' was fabulous. We all miss Johnny

Oh and by the way... I loved the later concert where the guy, not sure who, did the drunken impression. So funny..
PS have you seen the latest BBC prog on San Quentin? So revealing.

Yes, Johnny is missed along with June.

I really enjoy all of his music.

Later in life when he did, I Hurt Myself Today! It was so well done with June standing over on the stairs.

Johnny had just kick a speed habit when he did the prison show. His music folks didn't want him to do it, but in his own style he told them to go to hell. It was a major sucess!
