I think I'd only be comfortable with guys taking it is if they were in a long-term relationship; in which STD tests are done and everything.
I hear too many stories of people saying "She was on the pill so I never thought about std's"
And lets face it guys, if you're in control of the pill then not many guys would think twice about using a condom. It would probably come about that in most sexual relationships either the guy or the girl - or both - would be on the pill and then there'd be no need for condoms and therefore a growth in STD's.

In a clean relationship though I think it's a great idea.
I was on the pill for about a year; and yes it did make me gain a bit of weight and did make me more moody and there were risks of DVT etc - but it's a risk I took.
But then because of the medication I was put on I had to come of it; so it'd be great in that side of things that it's still an option to have great sex if one of the people was on other medication or something.

there's a shot??? Where they He11 do they insert the needle?

I'm celibate, so it's not really an issue, but I'd wait until it was on the market for a while. I'd be concerned the early models(?) might cause permanent sterility or birth defects.

I think that seeing as a lot of women are on the pill, and don't use condoms, that the male birth control pill is a great idea, because it will lower the risk of pregnancy even more.
But as Sarah said, we don't know what the risks will be 20 years down the line. Might end up having a long term effect.

To all the people who've said about stds etc, that's still an issue with women being on the pill now. I'm on the pill, and we don't use condoms coz we've been together for years and hell, we trust each other. But if I wasn't in a steady relationship I'd stil be on the pill, but I'd also use condoms just for added protection.

It'll probably eventually be like the female version, where you sometimes have to try several different types of pills to find one that doesn't give you terrible side effects. I was lucky in that I put on a bit of weight that made me look more healthy and went up a cup size or two.

Maybe one side effect will be for men's "love swords" to grow an inch or two..... then I'm sure men'd be running to the GPs to get them - even if they also made you gain a few pounds....

NB - I do not call them love swords, but thats what some bloke called it in embarassing illnesses on Ch4 last week, never heard it called that before!!

I think that if it does come out it will be very important for the doctors prescribing it to men to make sure that the guys understand that the pill DOES NOT prevent STD's or HIV/AIDS. The female version doesn't, and yet so many women are ok with having sex without a condom, it is scary to think that men would possibly have a new excuse to tell uneducated women about why they don't need a condom.

I personally dont see why so many men complain about having to use a condom... unless your highly allergic or your partner is there is no excuse, it takes an extra minute but it helps prevent your junk from becoming covered in warts (ewwwwwwww) and it helps you and your partner from contracting a debilitating disease with a huge social stigma that will kill you within a few years of contracting it. Given that knowladge I just dont understand how anyone would be foolish enough to not want to use a condom. (unless of course you are certain that you are in a "clean" relationship, there is no infidelity, and you are trying to have a baby)

Agreed!

I get really really shocked when my friends say that they've had a one night stand and not used a condom.... regardless of whether you are on the pill that is no excuse to not want to protect yourself from harmful illnesses. I know someone who's sleeping with a bloke and they don't use condoms because it split once and so they thought f*** it. It seems to be asking for trouble IMO.

I wouldn't want my boyfriend to use the pill, I was on it and it was the most awful experience.. I went to go visit my boyfriend while I was on them and it was terrible, we fought all the time, I wasn't affectionate like I usually am... It totally changed me and I got off it. I only wanted it to see if it'd help some acne but it didn't, so I didn't need it anyway. I wouldn't want my boyfriend to change from it, already had to go through that once with me.

I don't want to be one in a million. I want to be one in 6.7 billion.

No guesses? It's not abstinence, it's anal!
