We need to make more noise about plastic bags?!? Do you have your heads in the sand?? all we hear about is ------- plastic bags....on the news, every time I go shopping...
And since when did I dump anything in the sea??? It goes to landfill
To be honest there is only so much attention we can bring to stuff because there are only so many hours in the day and plastic bags are pretty much on the verge of being delt with.
are there really no other issues worth fighting for these days?!?1

yes because it is becoming an enviromental issue where different species are becoming extinct.... and if we do not clean up the enviroment then what kind of future are we leaving for our children and their children? hmmmm? one day your great grand child is going to ask her/his mum "mummy where are all the dolphins?"

Anyway the point is, instead of telling people what they already know, put you efforts into finding alternatives, you would prolly get a better response and wont be wasting your time.

Hey, I already gave one example. You can buy bags for life. You can even get fashion ones which fit into pouches for 2 pounds in Claire's Accessories. As well as that, put pressure on companies to stop using excessive packaging. I don't see why a small plastic torch needs as much plastic packaging as a Barbie doll. Small things like that make a big difference. And yes, excessive use of plastic is killing dolphins. They see a Tesco bag caught on a rock or something and get curious, go to investigate and get stuck and drown. And yes, dolphins can drown, they need to get air through their blow-holes every now and then.

But we know this or these examples are already in the pipe line. The only thing that isnt in the mainstream media is the bird thing but then again hearing that your rubbish is hurting animals is hardly a big surprise. Maybe you should be focusing on why its not a big surprise....

BTW i think you are a reasonably intelligent girl and I dont want to put down you ideas, I just think your focusing on something that you can have little or no impact. You could make a much bigger difference by focusing on educating people in things they know nothing about.

As for the re-usable bags, supermarkets have sold them for years, that is nothing new , same as the reason they sell them.

A woman managed to rid her home town of plastic bags and she's planning on moving on to packaging. The fact is, people aren't taking enough action. They see adverts for Tesco offering clubcard points if you bring your own bag and the government trying to cut down on plastic use and think "Yeah, right." and don't do anything and animals are suffering. Dolphins and seals are drowning while birds are starving to death in the places we call "protected" for them. People have to know that they have to do something and the government has to push for it or it'll never happen. The government won't tell people why they have to stop using so much plastic and why you can't just dump things on beaches and in rivers so they keep doing it.

The only way I know how to fix it is to try to push the government and companies into educating people about the issue and to stop using unnecesary amounts of plastic. We must be the only country in Europe where it's impossible to buy a cucumber that's not wrapped in plastic.

Ok but you seem to think that people will listen and not just ignore you because they know that rubbish is killing animals because they were taught that in school.
As for the government and companies, you have been told Labour want to ban plastic bags in this thread and I know one or two supermarkets are getting rid of them all together so like I said things are changing.
It might not be fast enough for you but it is as fast as it gets and you wont make it go any faster.

Tell me, what have you done to change it?

How many eco forests do we have? Is there enough to fill the demand for all the bags we will use and the paper we write on? Or will we have to take away from that?
As for dead wood, is there enough to fill the demand? i doubt it.

I'm trying I just don't know where to start. And you'd be amazed the number of people who don't know the effect it can have. The amount of stuff dumped near the river Carron and the polluted burn prove that and guess what - it's woodland so there's really no-one but the locals around to pollute it.
