30/M/Lake Saint Louis, Missouri Join Date: Oct 2005 | I actually think that people tend to dislike Emos because of their constant "woe is me" attitude, and the constant assertion that their life sucks and they are worthless, hate themselves, etc... This often seems to come from privileged children of middle cla** families. This rubs the wrong way with a lot of people I know that can tell you real and scarey stories of a hard childhood.
Now, some people suffer from clinical depression, and have a genuine problem that makes them feel like that. Emos seem to be "depression wannabe's" (not all, of course), and I just don't get that. It's like wanting to have cancer. Depression is a serious illness and not something to fake. The result is that people genuinely suffering from depression are not being taken seriously, and not getting the care they need. That pisses me off. If one more person asks me for advice for depression and then refuses to take any advice they are given, I'll scream.
On the clothes and make up thing - wear what you like, I couldn't give a stuff. I may think you look ridiculous, but you probably think I look silly in a suit. That is personal choice.

19/M/Dandyland, United Kingdom Join Date: May 2006 | I think people have a problem with emo's becouse emo's have a problem with people.
For example emo's all hang around in groups, do the same thing, dress simerlarly, listen to the same kinda music and have the same sorta style. While people who aren't like that are never seen with a group of emo's, so it's like their segregrating themselves from the rest of society.
Other groups, like punks, neds/chavs or whatever tend to not be exclusively people of that group. In a group of punks it's rare that all of them are punks, there is usually a few people who dont look punk like.
I think thats why people have a problem with emo's. And the fact everytime you walk past them they scream out "conformist" and stuff like that, when they dont know the meaning of the word, as i can asure you, i am not a conformist. And in my opinion, anyone who dresses the same and has the exact same style as their friends is conforming.

I agree completly, I do not claim to be an anti-conformist, I just hate conforming with the mainstream. I admit that I do conform to the Gothic culture, yes I have my own personal style, but overall, yeah its conformity.
