Im learning German on my own, and ive got most of the basics down, but the program im working with just doesnt help. If someone could, please, just help me out with any tips on easier learning it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Well, Sweets, what 'program' are you working with?

Immersion is the key to learning any language. You have to put yourself into an environment where the only means of communication available to you is in German... Within two to three months, you will be just fine. Any inhibitions you may have can easily be overcome by partaking of a few brews over the course of an evening.... I learned German like this, years ago, and I know that this method works. My Polish instructors recommended it!

Willkommen !

Normally I used, when I learn Enlish, a grammatic book, and a book with lections.
Also it�s good, when you use German Journal like the SPIEGEL.

Good luck on learning german. I would say it is the hardest language to learn not that I have tried to learn it.

Are there any universities near you? If so, they usually have language societies anyone can join. Saegespaenne is right, the best way to learn is to immerse yourself in the language, and the best way to do that is to speak to people who know the language, ideally native speakers. Immersion is the best way. Textbook will teach you
grammar etc, masculine/feminine articles etc.

And yes, beer will loosen your inhibitions that's for sure.
I remember visiting Germany once. We stopped in Munich (for the Oktoberfest). I was experiencing having a boot (of bier) and after the first few drinks I had no problem spitting out whatever travel German I knew - to anyone passing by! I love traveling overseas. Wouldn't mind going back one day. Not high on the list of "things to do" but it'd be nice!

As long as people will accept crap, it will be financially profitable to dispense it! (d*** Cavett)

Hallo!

I would recommend getting as much german exposure as you can. Read articles, watch german tv or movies, and what helps a lot is practising your spoken german with german-speaking friends, if you have any. And if you don't have any, try to make some! What you can also do is find german podcasts or stream a german radio online, that way you can develop a better ear for it.

I have interest in the German language as well. Though, I barely know even the basics as of yet, I don't think it should be too difficult as the syntax is very similar to the English language. I'm thinking a good German/English dictionary would do the trick along with some German magazines.

I also realized that reading german articles that have sentence by sentence side translations extremely useful.
