Exactly. In my case, greed would get the better of me and the machine would burst.
He said you can have 1500 books on there, and classics are uber cheap. Damn, he's making it hard not to buy one.

1500? In that little box? Seriously, though, it would seem so odd, considering that I've got several hundred, parked around a couple of rooms. My mind couldn't get to grips with it. Anyway, I like the pretty pictures on the front.

Claud, I packed 12 boxes of books and that was soo annoying. I would hate to pack your library

David's got wise to me smuggling books into the house now, so the numbers are only creeping up, instead of multiplying like rabbits. Having said that, with so many cheap charity shops about, I feel it's my duty to buy everything they get in.

I had a play with the Sony E-book in Currys last weekend.
The tech geek in me really wants one!! but sadly I've got a too read pile (well a bookcase really!!)of 'real' books to get through before I could start using it.
Strangely the too read pile keeps going up - books just seem to jump into my hand whenever I go shopping!!
The other reasons I wouldn't want one:
I like the feel and smell of a real book in my hand.
I generally find new books and authors when brosing in bookstores - thats harder to do when you buy everything electronicaly.
I find new books and authors that way as well. My to be read pile is massive.

I agree completely. I'd rather have a real, old-fashioned book. My unread pile is going to collapse soon and demolish a wall.

Wow, you really do have piles! I remember a thread you posted. I had no idea you had that many books. I have around 30, but just can't get in the mood to read rather than come here. The Kindle does sound interesting to me but it's too expensive. I read that you can download free books but there isn't much of a selection of bestsellers for the Kindle. Is that true?

My problem is that there are a lot of charity/thrift shops in our town who all sell very cheap books, some very recently published. I can't resist buying them and I end up with more than I can handle. I don't buy much else and they're so reasonably priced that I come home with dozens of them.

I think it's great. I mean books last if they're taken care of. You could read them 20 years from now. Books are a great investment. I feel privileged to be able to read. So how is the Kindle? I like that it's light weight. It's hard to read the heavy books when lying down so I buy paperbacks. If the library has a book I want in hardback and I can't find anything else, I will check it out.

Hey, Claudibee -- have you given any consideration to 'collecting' some <real, old-fashioned books> on a disk? I have been doing some collecting of my own, lately, and it's become rather like an addiction. I have so many old volumes saved to my computer, that I must copy the files onto CDs to be able to free up some space. But, at any moment, I can open up any one of them, and get lost in time and space.... The best thing is, these are free. Would you read something like this one? If so, you can download it, right from Googlebooks to your computer... At least, it won't be the book that causes your pile of unreads to collapse.
