i think the only thing i have ever been emotionally disturbed watching when it comes to animals, was when i seen this chinese market on television and these guys had these cats in cages, and when someone ordered it, they would take them out of the cages and dunk them into really hot water for a period of probably 20 secs. Then they would hang them on a hook, let them relax.. and then slowly they would peel off the fur... while the cat was still alive.

so trust me. seeing a cow being butchered, thats life. it happens. but try watching that happen, and you'll feel perfectly fine with letting a cow be butchered and packaged for you to eat.

mmmm can we get this in the uk yet

Sounds like something Ted Nugent would say...wait he did! Those steaks, etc.. you/we like so much had to come from some cow that was killed and cut up so we could throw that t-bone on the grill!

And the White Knight is talking backwards

It is a little ironic that vegans know more about how flesh gets from "farm" to plate than flesh eaters do.

The reality is, of course, that large animals have to be killed if people are to eat their muscles and other body parts. Most people seem to be quite happy about that so long as "welfare" is catered for.

The animal rights view of the world would abolish these rights violations. It is relatively easy to be a vegan now-a-days. You should try it!

He's making chicken, because God isn't a cannibal.

Actually, when you're a vegan, instead of killing animals you're killing plants instead. Plants are considered life, so someone had to kill a plant for someone to eat a salad.

Killing a plant and killing a nonhuman individual with interests is very different. Most people will acknowledge this difference when thinking about putting a knife to the head of a cabbage compared to putting a knife to the head of a sheep or cow or pig.

Cabbages do not have interests in the obvious sense that nonhuman animals do. They are not sentient beings like nonhumans are, so they do not have an interest in not suffering since they cannot do so. They do not exist in the world like animals, including human animals, do.

I know, but a lot of people are always talking about life and oh how we shouldn't kill and eat living things, but really, instead of killing animals they're killing plants, also living things and parts of the earth.

I Laura. I am a sociologist and I am fascinated to learn why you would come onto a forum marked "Animal Rights" and say that. Presumably to wind some people up - although why you would be motivated to upset perfect strangers is another interesting issue.

I'm sure - I hope - that you don't go onto Amnesty International forums to tell people that you've just organised the trafficking of some women into modern-day bonded labour.

So, why in this case?

I would say that your not a cannibal unless you eat the meat of your own species... That may be up for debate of course.

I had a nice piece of bacon on my plate.....right next to the breaded chicken and grilled steak. Didn't taste as good as the shrimp and lobster I had for lunch, but it was a little better than the duck omelet I had for breakfast. I think it was the venison sausage that made the breakfast stand out though.

My dog really liked the bison burger I made for him. If I didn't put in the extra pork fat it probably would have been too dry.

See, what I meant was that God was making chicken, because he isn't a cannibal, so he's not eating human flesh, he's eating chicken.

And do you have an equally smart reply to the bit about human rights that you ignored?
