It’s just a story or poem, it’s not about me.
If those things that I write were to happen,
I’d be so sad from this world I would flee.

Writing about rape, murder, divorce, sad love,
if all these things were part of my life I’d give up.
Think I’d beg to go off a cliff with a shove.

Assume that you know me, for most you’ll be wrong,
it makes me giggle to think that the tales that I tell,
get people to thinking, who could ever be that strong.

Yes they’re about me, maybe a sentence or two,
I’ve never been much for tagging along,
drawing on observation is what writers must do.

Telling stories about the things I see as wrong,
gives me the chance to write about what I see right.
Think if you wish that I write about you or me.

Of course that is part of it, I learn what I see,
people will fascinate, confuse and disturb.
Excuse this poor poem, I’m responding to a blurb.

Twice today I've gotten a response to something I've written as if it were about me. Every writer draws on life, but not always on their own.
My gosh, if the things I write about all happened to me what a mess. I'd be divorced, happily married, engaged, pregnant, suicidal, depressed, fat, thin, famous, irresponsible, a drug addict, an abused wife, etc. Think about what I've done for a living; psychologist, special education teacher, writer, musician. Writing is more about observing than anything. I've seen way more than I wish, but it hasn't all happened to me. Perhaps I'm an empathetic writer who can really feel my patient's pain. Not sure, but if what I put on the page makes you cry or laugh, maybe that's a good thing. Hopefully, that's what's happening because I don't want to write
This is not about me on everything that I do.
Have a nice day, worse thing happening to me today is a lousy cold.

Stories are written on reflection and observations a writer has seen, a feeling interpreted. If it says story, it's a story.

Good luck on the cold.

That's cool.

All my ideas are propogandic so I don't even bother much with writing poems. Lol.

On a writing site I just got this reaction again. One good thing, I asked several writers and their response was, "As long as you made someone think at all, don't worry about it. If people want to think you've lost your mind ,so what."
They're right, but I keep hearing my mother saying over and over, "What will people think?"
We shouldn't care and just be ourselves, but it's hard to get past that. Sometimes when I'm working with a patient, going through a terrible crisis, I need to get it out of my system. I've got enough of my own nonsense to deal with, if I hang on to their's I'll burn out and be no use to anybody.
