Is it possible to place a script within a webpage that will capture a section of the page and turn it into an image when you click submit? Like tell it to take everything within table "x" and generate an image out of it?

No, I want something similar to the print screen key, only have it work from within the webpage, and not capture the entire screen, just a specific section of it.

There are products that can capture a section of the screen on the clipboard, like print screen but for a subset of the screen. But those are client side applications.

It may be possible to do something server side, but the question of course is "why do you want to?".

I made a website where you can put text in a quote box next to a person's picture, like this: link [quotebubble.com]

so I want to make it so a person can turn a quote they've made, or that someone else made into an image, so they could share it more easily, like post it on a myspace page or something.

I found a script called HTML2Image for Linux that seems to do what I want, but it's $300, and requires a lot of knowledge about installing software on a server, as well as writing a script to be able to use it as a web application, neither of which I know how to do.

You'd probably be better off with something that will transpose the two images server side, then return the image as a regular JPG.

I think this software would allow you take an image, add to it your user's quote, and spit back the result as a single JPG that could then be saved to the user's hard drive.

This may do what you want too.

Sorry, I can't be bothered to read through everything to work out if it will do exactly what you want. But it's a server side image manipulation tool, so I imagine it will.

Oh, it's not the same kind of software as something like the church sign generator, it's actually just run on forum software, so there is no limit on the length of the text or on the text formatting. The quote bubble image surrounding the text expands to fit the text, like any table would. The quote bubble itself is actually made of 3 separate images to allow it to expand to fit the text. That's why I need it to capture the page and turn it into an image, there is no one image to start with.

I understand. The programs I linked to should enable you to take the original image, and then transpose the speech bubble, in however many chunks necessary, onto it. You could even just turn the speech bubble into a white background image, and then stitch it to the original input to make a new single image which would look just like your current output.

That sounds even more complicated than the HTML2Image software...I don't know the first thing about transposing or stitching or any of that.
