As I read a few of the more recent threads here I have noticed that there are more and more people using "text-speak" here !

You know...No upper-case, no punctuation and words and numbers mixed up to shorten words like "m8" instead of "mate" etc' !

Don't get me wrong here as I am not just being an old fogie and dissing text-speak out of hand; I am just asking if the continued use of shorthand texting in mobile-phones is influencing how many people write just about anywhere..AND..is that a good thing if it is true ?

See it doesnt matter if words are spelled wrongly, as long as a person has actually tried. Sentences, paragraphs, structure, content, punctuation are all loved

Blessings are given to those who try to post good stuff and make their content comprehensive

It's Ok Paps. That's text speak for ............

I agree with Paps that the increase in the use of Text speak is increasingly invading other communications.

I have a friend who marks GSCE "O" Level examinations in a range of subjects and she was shocked to see how often text speak is used by pupils in their examination papers. Worse than that in their ENGLISH examination.

when im texting i use it. Im aware that on TFS im not perfect with appostrophies and capital letters, but i do try with my grammar on here. When I text people I tend to use text speak so I can fit in more into a smaller space. I used to use it on here *hangs head in shame* but now I think I'm much better.

In the future how on earth are these children going to be able to cope with writing business plans, correspondence, legal documentation. If they forget the original English language how are they ever going to cope if they ever make it into university?

As long as this pig eared version of the English language is going to be accepted we are helping its decline.

I've heard that before. That kids are so used to using text speak they've used it in their exams. I'd never be that stupid. When I'm typing a proper essay or a document my grammar is almost perfect (I wouldn't say it's fantastic because I stll don't fully understand english grammar)

I think the problem is that kids aren't taught grammar the way it sued to be taught in the past. For instance, my grammar improved after I read "Eats, shoots, and leaves" The book written by a self-confessed grammar nazi which explains english grammar. It made my grammar improve a lot and I think I'm a lot better now than i was before. English grammar is not taught in schools, most kids don't evn know the proper use of a comma any more, let alone semi-colons and colons etc.
