In the cities (especially Sydney) we really don't sound like Aussies anymore,we seem to have changed our accent to accommodate the people now living here from other Countries, which I find sad,we have our own language and identity and we don't sound like we did.

I said to some bloke today something about chuckin a wobbly, he asked what it meant, and this was an Australian bloke???what's happening to us and our identity

Dont know but it must be true, your post did nor contain a single "strewth", reference to tinnies, sheelaghs or f***in poms.

Maybe they dont want to be recognised as Ausies since we got the Ashes back.

I thing language is becoming national and eliminating regional accents. I find it better---I'm now speaking like a nation broadcaster.

Is it a bad thing?

radharc is right we are going global, I do not think anything can stop it. I dont know if its a bad thing or a good thing. If we are all the same surely there will be less prejudice

It's happening in the North East of Scotland too, more English or Glaswegian accents than Aberdonian these days.

I hope the Aussies don't lose their culture, it's a fantastic culture. There isn't a problem in the world that can't be solved with a couple of tinnies and a barbie.

I'm going to reread my 'True Blue: An international guide to Aussie slang'.

Ere By Guum chum, you poms have won the ashes,G'donya, but remember this,we have a team of mostly unknowns at moment, that really haven't played much as a team,so their an unknown quantity even to themselves.Give them another year and let's see who has the ashes again.

An Asian channel is regional. National broad casters speak with the National dialect and not with a regional acent. In the USA anyway

jmo,it's refreshing to go to place like Hay,Condobolin and other country towns, and here G'Day Mate, here in Sydeney they all say Hiiiii, sounding like a bunch of Pansies.I work with a Scotsman for many years,he was a Rangers fan,his accent in all that time never let up,it was just as thick the day he retired as it was the day I met him,and I worked with him for 20 yrs.

I think its sad too Rider. I find it fascinating learning and listening to my friends from around the world tell and teach me new things
