I've visited New York twice in the past 8 years. I would definately say that it's my favorite city anywhere. The rudeness is generally a myth. Although you can run into rude people, I thought that by and large most people were friendlier than they are here in Alabama. The bars here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama are very cliquish. If you go into a bar and don't know anybody no one will talk to you, it's like you don't exist. That wasn't the case in New York. We went to several bars and coffee houses in Greenwich Village. People were friendly and struck up conversations in all of them. Yes the crowds on the street is very thick and everybody walks fast, but I never really felt unsafe. New York to me has a much safer feel than New Orleans, Birmingham or Atlanta.

What did Forest Gump say, "...life is like a box of chocolates...". so it is with New York City. Try it, you might like it !

I went the year before 9/11. I had mixed feelings. I was actually impressed with how clean and nice it was, I had heard horror stories before I went. All The New Yorkers we spoke to spoke highly of Guilliani Sorry if I spelt that wrong. They all said what a massive difference he had made to the city.

On the other hand, I found it all a bit fake and I certainly encountered some rude people. We stayed in a hotel on the corner of 75th and Broadway, It was nice, clean and the staff were helpfull, they even let me stay in the room on our last day because I was sick when I say sick I mean literly..Too much food, the portions were mind blowing. I was there 5 days and my stomach was just telling me enough already!

I got to have dinner at the top of the world trade centre and go to the nighclub up there. That was cool. We were eating dinner looking out of the windows and all we could see was cloud below us!

The supermarket was an experience.. everyone so busy, rushing around like maniacs. The deli was cool and the taxi drivers surprisingly friendly. We went into a bar called Yogi's, they had peanuts on the bar and we got yelled at for NOT chucking the shells on the floor!! Was great though. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't rush back.

If You're right there is no need to shout, if you're wrong then there is little point in shouting.

I meant to add to that that I find London much more intimidating
