Does anyone think that it was a good idea for the U.S. to return to Isolationism after World War 1?

Two kinds of isolation, taxes on imports and limits on immigration, may have made the depression worse. When people say isolation, they usually mean that the United States didn't join the League of Nations, so returning to isolation might mean leaving the United Nations. The United States has never been as isolated as the Middle East. For example, Egypt got its first printing press more than 300 years after Gutenberg.

Was the United States isolated in the 1920’s?

In 1795, during Washington’s second term, the Jay Treaty became the guide for trade between the United States and England.

A treaty, or maybe an agreement with Spain, set the boundaries of Florida, and Spain allowed American shipping along the Mississippi River.

The United States agreed to pay annual tribute to the Dey of Algiers to secure exemption from pirates.

One must wonder which of these are isolationist and which are not.
