If the woman who is bearing a faetus will die unless she is allowed to have an abortion, should she be allowed to abort the faetus?

Of course. But it's entirely up to the woman. Here in Australia not long ago a doctor recently gave up her life for her baby. They found out that she had cancer when she was pregnant and she chose not to cure the cancer but to have the baby.

I can also see the flip side though. Who would want to feel responsible for the death of their mother? I would hate to have grown up without my mum.

I'm mainly pondering this about people who are opposed to abortion.

There are a number of groups (mainly, I think, in the USA) who are opposed to abortion, usually for religious reasons. I just want to know what course of action they would support if the above event took place.

I stand in complete awe of life, but I think that abortion should be removed from the arena of "allowed" or "not allowed" and into the physician's office where it properly belongs as a doctor-patient decision.

If abortions are outlawed, women will still get them, they will just be butchered.

A coat hanger should only be used for hanging coats.

I guess it's always easy for them to judge when they're not put in that position.

I actually know somebody who went through this recently.

The fiance of one of my friends was told that she would never be able to get pregnant, because he uterus had so much scar tissue from being horribly sexually abused when she was younger. They've been together for about four years and recently found out that she was pregnant. They were ecstatic when they found out, because they didn't think that it could happen and were really excited about having a baby.

She later found out that because of the amount of scar tissue in her uterus, the baby would basically out-grow it and it would kill her, and she had to have an abortion.

The baby would have died too, so she had every right in the world to have the abortion, even though she was absolutely crushed by it.

to be honest everyone would hate to grow up without a mother or father but you cannot miss what you do not have only want it, but whats to say just because you don't have a mother means you will not bee equaley laveby another just as much. i mean some parents who have kids should just not be allowed but then some people who cannot or people who have to give up so much deserve to have one.

Yes, thats the only reason that i see a need for an abortion.

Although im not agnst abortion...i should be a last resort and nonody should be allowed to have more then one.

It's entirely up to the women to decide cz she's the one who's gotta spend 9 months holding the baby!!

Theory is good, but it doesn't prevent things from existing.

I'm fully pro-choice and feel that women should be able to have any amount of abortions for any reason at any age during any time of the pregnancy. Why are some people so anti-abortion that they would rather see a healthy young woman die just to save a potential life?
