yes,google is your friend.Just stay away from flashy adds...
Promoting a website is a very time consuming process.
remember, that content is the master,if your site is just a pale copy of another, or if you just "copy/paste" some existing content, you wont get a good ranking.You can even get blacklisted from major search engines.

Search engines usually index most forums so by having your website address in your signiture it will be indexed and will then also will be indexed in the search engine.
