Most forms of hunting are now banned in the UK, fox hunting, stag hunting, hare coursing etc etc i think the only legal hunting now is birds.

Having watched Louis Theroux in South Africa on the big game hunting, it got me thinking. It costs $40,000 to kill a lion in a well run legal game park, this money goes into the conservation of more lions. So for every one you kill, another 10 are raised. There is big money still in big game hunting and basically if it was outlawed many families would be completely broke. One man spoke of Zimbabwe and how people just fell into poverty once the big game hunting was disallowed.

Do you feel it hypocritical to buy sausages or a rack of ribs or a pack of steaks and at the same time object to hunting animals?

Do you feel it is a mans right to hunt an animal with fair play, well trained to make a quick kill?

Whats the difference between animals in farms, bred for meat and animals on big game ranches?

I think hunting is ok, as long as it's not something like Rino's and crap in Africa. Animals killed should be animals you intend to eat. And no endangered species. If all hunting was outlawed. Animals would drop in population anyways because of competition, but the predator population would increase which wouldn't be good. Hunting controls both the population of the hunted animal, like deer/elk/birds/etc. and also controls the predator population. If we had an over population of predators, they'd start looking for food in town, killing livestock, pets, rummaging trash cans and what not. Predators in town doesn't sound too good to me.

Sport hunting's bad.
So is poaching.

Keeping pest population under control is good for the environment though.

hunting is better than breeding animals for the sake of killing and eating them in my opinion.

I'm a vego, but I'm not particularly opposed to hunting for the sake of eating really. I think hunting and killing an animal means that that animal has had a better life than any that we breed for the sake of meat.

Hunting here in Indiana is necessary to control the deer population. If there wasn't hunting, the deer would be overrunning us. There would be more deseases from deer ticks and the like.
The sport hunting of lions, leopards and the like is WRONG. People pay out rageous prices to kill something beautiful just to make them feel manly.

Human hunting is generally frowned upon. So is animal hunting, come to think of it.

The only hunting i have a problem with is trophy hunting. Killing something just to put it on your wall seems a little warped to me.

If you shoot it, you should be forced to eat it!
Simple!
That may apply to humans as well!

well why wouldn't you eat it? Although I'd still mount the head Of a large animal, like say a moose or something.

Yeah, not to mention that the meat is given to locals that would otherwise have no protein, money is paid to the trackers, skinners, packmenand anyone else who works at the hunt camps. There are many many other positive to spots hunting.

I agree, all of the good that african sports hunting does is outweighed by the fact that someone just wants the animals skin.

ok, well what do you think when say a lion takes down an antelope? Is that cruel? Same concept really , our highly evolved brains makes us the lion and every other animal on the planet the antelope. I don't think we should hunt endangered species however.

I did not realise this about sport hunting in Africa, but it still seems wrong to hunt something just to have a trophy. At least here when we hunt deer we eat the meat. I am part Native American so I guess that is part of why I do not have a problem with it and my Dad use to hunt.

Are you serious? Cruel? It's not like we torture the animals. You put a bullet in it and it drops dead...most of the time. Occasionally there's a poorly placed bullet. But don't you think a cougar chasing down a deer and eating it alive is a little more painful for the deer than being shot and almost instantly dieing? People have been hunting since the beginning of time. It's just natural. Not disgusting.
