It's not that big of a deal. Every couple of months is fine, unless you do an awful lot of installing and uninstalling programs, or downloading and deleting files, stuff like that. Then maybe once a month.

What kind of OS you running? and if you have screensaver and otherbackground programs running sometimes they will override the scan disk and defrag. You need to make sure you disconnected from the internet and nothing is running except the OS. Try closing or exiting everything down below on the right. Then try scan and defrag. If not then call tech support they will walk you through it.

With the kind of junk that gets dumped into the system nowadays just with browsing sessions its important to be regular with maintenance tasks such as disk cleanup and defrag and do it atleast when the 'Analyze' options suggests a defrag. This will help keep the performance smooth (which is important if you find the few second lags during file access or boot/shutdown irritating)

I've started using Ace Utilities and WinDoc for cleaning up and now I use PerfectDisk 7.0 for the defraging.
