How old is the bird?
I find it's always easier to get a bird that is hand reared. They bond easier and are easier to train in most circumstances but this is not always the case.
Clipping the birds wing is a good start so it cant fly into things and hurt itself, i've heard horror stories of birds in full flight in the family home. But please take it to a professional to have it's wing clipped, you can do some irrepairable damage as well as have it bleed to death if you get the wrong part of the wing.
Try talking to it through the cage door, feed it it's fac foods that you dont normally give it in it's cage, so he can associate you with his fav foods.
ADVOCADO IS TOXIC TO BIRDS.....PLEASE DONT FEED THEM THIS, he will die most definately.
After he is taking food from the cage, you can try getting him out his cage, if he bites and you arent confident putting your hand in the cage, and some birds can be quite aggressive if you put your hand in their territory (eg their home) once he is out try getting him to sit on your finger, try feeding his his fav foods, talking to him gently and teach him to "Step up" say the words and GENTLY put your finger against his chest and show him to step on your finger.
Do regular sessions, but short sessions each day until he is used to you.
It takes a lot of time and patience but is well worth it.
I have owned many parrots and trained them to be wonderful pets.
At the moment i have a green cheek conure and he is a real ball of fun and very clever and intelligent.
But please remember to make sure all doors and windows are closed when you have your bird out, dont have the stove on or be cooking anything, make sure the toilet lid is down, fish tanks closed and no water etc is in the sink, they can easily drown..
Hope this has helped as little!
