If there is a cup somewhere that was supposedly used by Jesus, I imagine that it would have been quite plain, either wood or clay. In that period in history, the only people that had elaborate drinking vessels were the rich.

No one knows for certain what a Grail is. The idea of it being a cup is the most accepted idea.
