Because of a medical condition.

My doctor has determined that the reason I get nauseous EVERY time I eat is because of something called Reactive Hypoglycemia. The treatment is to reduce simple sugars, carbs, etc.

I live for things like apples and now, I find out that because of this stupid condition, I shouldn't eat them.

So, I need some help. The best way to treat this is dietary changes, to reduce the simple sugars and carbs and to make sure to have a good balance of proteins, dairy, and fats (whichever is good for you...I can't remember).

Any ideas on where I can get some help with this? Find some recipes? I'm completely baffled

Try something like the South Beach diet or Atkins.

Those things suck. Completely cutting out carbs is a bad idea.

Just avoid things with simple sugars in them. Eat more vegetables and whole grains.

Thanks, guys!

Having to get rid of most of my fruit is bugging me more than anything else...but I guess I can compensate by increasing vegetables.

Pasta is going to be the REALLY tough one, though I love pasta...

Look, just go on a vegetarian diet. Buy organic foods. Drink lots of water and herbal teas (without suger). Cleanse your intestines and colon once or twice a month.

Pasta shouldn't actually be so bad. Pasta, especially wheat pasta, has a low glycemic index. Though it seems to be a very simple carbohydrate, your body doesn't treat it like one. Try the pasta out. Be sure you leave it a little firm. The softer the pasta is, the higher it's GI.

Avoid things with sugars on the nutrition label, obviously. Avoid any breads that aren't 100% whole grain, non-skim milk, rice, and potato. If you want ceral, stay away from the Special K and puffed stuff, go for high-fiber cereals like Kashi and Fiber One.

Jon, you just made my day! I'll give pasta a try and see what happens. The worst that can happen is it makes me nauseous...that's been a constant state of being lately anyway

Thanks for the tip on cereal. I tend to go for Kashi before anything else, anyway, but I've just never paid that much attention to nutrition information.
