Any advice or cures that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated.

My sis is nearly at breaking point now

If it's white, sticky and not yours dont touch it.

Shave the head

Or comb through with conditioner every 2-3 days for about 3 weeks

Done the conditioner thing every night now for about 4 weeks, my sisters fingers are red raw...nothing will kill them.
Wash the bed linen daily, even resorted to giving the kids odourless garlic capsules cos we'd heard nits dont like garlic?

Cant shave there heads cos there girls and that would be so humiliating for them.

Dye her hair with something that has hydrogen peroxide. It will kill anything. But you still have to get it out of fibers where she sleeps.

Buy permethrin spray and wash for everything in your house. Use vinegar for the head, and if it is really bad, live in a hotel for a few days. The lice cannot live without a host for more than 3 days, so if keeping the house clean is impossible that will most certainly help.

Eww! lice are SUCH a pain in the a** to get rid of! My son brought them home from college. He and his girlfriend both got them. I was so freaked out I wouldnt' help with it at all. They applied the stuff to one another and combed them out of each other's hair like little monkies. GOod luck and dont' get too close to anyone with them!

We've done the docs, over the counter stuff, washing the bed linin daily, bandana's....its just getting beyond a joke now.

Cant put peroxide on a 7 year olds head.

The school wont help, sending letters out, nit nurse etc...my sis is getting to the point now she's getting ratty with the kids cos its just a constant battle, she's even sent them into school with dirty hair hoping that would deter them...but no!

Thanks guys

my boys had them constantly for yrs i done everything, shaved heads, solutions conditioner though that had a affect insted of using the comb i used to use kitchen roll to get the conditioner out, that worked pretty well but the only time it stopped was when they left junior school,i used to send letters i cos id get the boys totally clean and by the next week they were back again.

A great man once told me,
I was beutiful,
SO I MARRIED HIM.

Go to the newspapers with it. Get public attention drawn to the lice pandemic at that school, and something will get done.

If they were my children I wouldn't send them to that school anymore, I would change districts.

Have her try Nix. That should kill the lice. If she feels that she still has the lice after about 2 weeks, she should do another application.

Went to a hair dresser in the end and got some advice, basically smother the hair in conditioner during the day whilst there at school because it apparently suffocates the nit...also the lady told us its illegal for the school not to be letting other parents know theres an outbreak!

Manual removal of lice and eggs may be a long and tedious process but it works if done diligently.

There are products you can use to help prevent infestation, the best one I found (and best smelling one too) is a spray made by KP24, simply called KP24 Head Lice Spray. It really worked for us. It sells for between $12 to $20 (huge price difference I know, you go figure). My daughter was lice free as long as we used it, but as soon as we stopped using it the lice would return.
