How weird of a celebration is it? I mean it is essentially remembering the brutal punishment and death of a failed terrorist then re-enacting what it would have looked like had the plotters succeeded.

Think in 300 years America will have a celebration where they ritually shoot figurines of Bin Laden and then create huge explosions to re-enact the Twin Towers being hit by planes?

It's weird.

Yeah, with that comparison, it does sound pretty weird.

The way it was explained to me by my BFF, it didn't sound weird, but your explanation does make it sound odd

9/11 succeeded.

Guy Fawkes failed.

Well maybe if you take the attack on the pentagon instead for the example.

It just seems like a really strange thing to celebrate. Something else that seems odd to me is Guy Fawkes was voted Britain's 30th best Briton of all time.

A terrorist is the 30th best person this country has ever produced. Not even that a failed terrorist, a terrorist who couldn't even do his job properly. Shows how bad the rest of us must be.

You mean the one where a plane crashed into the Pentagon, killing all 77 people in the plane and another 125 inside the Pentagon?

Or whatever one failed. Didn't one of them fail?

Well one of the planes didn't reach its intended target, but it was still crashed by hijackers, killing 40 people.

To use the analogy, though, I could potentially see Americans celebrating 9/11 by shooting at images of bin Laden and having fireworks if 9/11 were completely foiled with no loss of life and bin Laden were captured. But 9/11 succeeded and every hijacked plane was crashed, killing everyone on board.

So perhaps if Mr Fawkes had succeeded then we wouldn't celebrate Bon Fire night.

I still think we chose odd things to celebrate.

I've always wondered why you all celebrate Guy Fawkes day. I never really made sense to me.

Don't you know by now that we are odd people?

Apparently it wasn't even Guy Fawkes' idea for the whole blowing up Parliament thing in the first place. I agree though it is a little weird that we celebrate it. Still, I guess it's a part of our history and an excuse to have lots of fireworks so I'm not complaining
