Goes back to when not so many women worked and stayed at home to look after the family, and men were the providers.
I know times have changed, and women have the same educational opportunities as men (am talking UK here) and although that has made a big difference, the law regarding women in the workplace is still pretty archaic.
Women are seen as the weaker sex, and unable to do many things men can, this is not my opinion, just a general fact.
Until the laws are changed women are always going to be less valued in the workplace, yes we have better childcare facilities now, which enable more women to work, but what kind of mother would stay at work, after getting a call to say your child is sick? I would be out the door as soon as I had put he phone down!
Unless you are fortunate enough to be financially secure to start with many people are unable to start a business, as the investment is just too big..so you have to work for an employer..if you have kids a 9-3 job is so hard to find, and evening childcare almost impossible..
I guess until there is a radical change in the laws outlook, it will always be men at the fore. Wrong, but other than that I cant think of a solution.
