Once you've sorted out your CV, send it or show it to friends or family that you trust to give you honest feedback. Take on board what they say. If your still in education, ask the careers advice person or one of your teachers. It normally takes a few goes to get a CV right. You have to sell yourself, but not over the top. If your interested in certain things or belong to clubs which you regularlly attend, put it in your CV. (e.g. Someone who has attended a club on a weekly basis for a number of years, shows committment.)
Use a spell checker - I have to as my spelling is not too good. Then read it again & think, if I received this with an application for a job, and I did not know this person, would I invite them to an interview?
Once your happy with your CV, think about what kind of job you would like. Are you qualified in that field? You can then look in local papers & apply for jobs, enclosing your CV. But one of the best ways is to get hold of a copy of Yellow Pages (or on line at yell.com) Look at the business's in your area in your chosen field. Write to them with a copy of your CV & ask if they have any openings. Some will ignore you, (unless your willing to enclose SAE) some will write back & say not at this time, some will keep you on their books incase a vacancy arrises, you may even get offered an interview!
You can also go to web sites and up load your cv for free & hope that an employer in your area is looking for someone. So far this has worked for my eldest two, so good luck!
