The Exploited and Dead Kennedys.

The question "why" does not need an answer, I would have thought... But, I will give one anyway they f**king kick arse, that's why. No pretentious posing, no sucking the cock of the corporate music industry arseholes that have turned 'muzak' into some mind-numbing, pointless s**t that you wouldn't make a dog listen you... And, unlike almost every mainstream song these days, they don't sing about either being, or banging, some mindless bimbo - they actually think, sing about issues, and make good music...

Yeah, DK's kick ass. Not stricktly punk but I love Dead Boys and Rocket From The Tomb. The Fall also deserve special mention.

Hmm...favorite punk band. Well, I don't think there's such a thing as a bad punk band, so I think it's way too much to ask to determine a favorite. Punk is just so raw and honest. By virtue of that it can't be done wrong.

Hey, Emo is a legitimate sub-genre of Punk. Of course I'm not talking about that crap on the radio that gets called Emo, but the old stuff is amazing. Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, Fugazi, Embrace, Native Nod, Jawbreaker, along with many other groups past and present...granted you could also call most of these bands Progressive Hardcore, both would be right.

Also Pop Punk is such a negative term when you use it in a generalization like that. Don't forget that technically The Ramones, The Clash, and The Buzzcocks could all be considered Pop Punk. Plus bands like Teenage Bottlerocket, The Lillingtons, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Mr. T Experience, The Riptides, and The Copyrights are all examples of amazing Pop Punk(read as Poppy Punk, not Pop pretending to be Punk) bands. But all the same I agree that "Pop Punk"(Pop posing as Punk) is terrible.

P.S. I'm pretty sure I could name a band from most, if not all, sub-genres.

everything that was original has slowly mutated into terrible trend following s**t, including both emo and pop punk. sure, the ramones were good, but there are so many better bands out there. The majority of bands who cla** themselves within these categories are in it for money and fame, and so therefore suck

Well yeah for sure. I'm just sayin that they, like most music genres, don't really deserve the generalizations they get but I can see where you're coming from.
