So the European cup is set to start in five days! What team are you supporting and who do you think has the greatest chance of taking the cup this year?

Personally, I'm in with Spain first and Portugal second. Germany, France, and the Netherlands seem really worrying this year.

Spain and Holland have to be the favourites in terms of skill, form and team strength from the outset, but you can never write off the Germans. The Germans understand tournament football better than anybody and they always seem to peak at the right time.

There is a saying about tournament football: When Germany play well, they win the trophy. When Germany play badly, they only get to the final.

That's the sort of team they are, so they can't be discounted.

France have the ability to do well, but their chances depend largely on which French team turns up. Will we see the free flowing exponents of the beautiful game or the squabbling, unfocused sulking brats..? If they've got their indisciplined head on, they are too volatile.... they could implode on themselves again like they did in South Africa two years ago. Having said that, Laurent Blanc is a wily old former player and I think he has the respect of the players.... but still... with the French, you never know.

I can't see Italy or Portugal winning it, nor either of the host nations. Not enough talent or strength in depth.

England are in transition and this tournament comes too soon for Roy Hodgson as a coach who will be only three weeks in the job when the competition starts. Mind you... with the players at his disposal, he could be in the job three years and a place in the Quarter Finals is about the best he could hope for.

Is there an "outside bet" to be had..? I don't think so. Spain, Holland or Germany. One of those to win the tournament.

You should be a commentator at the games? Good idea? Yes?

No way. I don't want to have to have my brain emptied for the job, or to have to spend 90 minutes sitting next to Martin Tyler and listening to his inane, cliche-ridden hyperbole.

Such a situation may just make me forget I'm a pacifist.

I hope we get out straight away so it doesn't become a big thing. The hype is difficult to avoid, no matter how hard you try.

There is going to be wall to wall football on those channels which are covering the event, for the duration of the tournament regardless of whether England go out in the group phase or not, Sis.

Then, in the Autumn, the qualifying process for the next FIFA World Cup begins. And so it goes on...... and on...... and on.....

Well, Euro 2012 is up and running. I have to say, I was impressed with the opening ceremony. It only lasted 9 minutes..!! It actually took longer to go through the national anthems and handshake ritual nonsense.

Two red cards, a missed penalty and lots of attacking football made the Poland vs Greece game highly enjoyable. Neither of these teams should go far, but they certainly got the tourney off to a better start than most opening matches do.

The Russians were too strong for the Czech Republic.... too technically superior in just about every department. This game wasn't as unpredictably exciting as the previous game, but the Russians showed just how skilled they've become under d*** Advocaat. The Professorial old Dutchman has taught the Russians how to play. They look good to win the group.

Good luck Republic of Ireland in their game today. I hope they do well.

I'm supporting Denmark, good to see them get a win. They stuck to their tactics quite well, would have been very tempting to sit in when they were ahead but fortunately they stuck to possession play, which they are good at.

Had a fantastic qualification campaign and have a very united team. Think they could surprise people. Watched the Denmark - Holland game in a pub in Berlin, we managed to find one with a few Dutch fans in it who probably weren't best pleased with us sitting there in our Denmark shirts and scarfs (was with some Danes). Great atmosphere.

Had the Danish scarves and flags on the car for the journey back up to Copenhagen.

England's going to face France in about an hour and a half. This should be interesting (although the recent games between Portugal/Germany and Italy/Spain have been discouraging).

I watched greece vs poland, was pretty good.

Saw germany vs portugal, boring but got really going in the last 20 mins.

I watched the game last night but I was trashed so f*** knows who was playing. I think it was Italy.

Italy v Spain, and my god do they both play good football.
TBH I very meh about the Euros this time, I just hope England score loads of goals, not cause I'm bothered about them winning (which at this point I'm not, just hoping none of the many Liverpool players don't do a Michel Owena and do soe serious damage) but I win £10 for every goal up to £150

So, same result as the World Cup eh? And, yeah, Germany always has a chance.
