Not sure if this has been posted before but hey. I'm too lazy to check

As I was skimming through my Whitesnake 1987 album looking at the lyrics (As one does occasionally )

I noticed that 'tonight' was spelt like 'tonite' I know it sounds stupid but I immediatley thought 'Hey thats spelt wrong!'

I know that it is the American version of it but I couldn't escape the feeling that it was spelt wrong.

Am I the only one who feels this way? Does anyone else in either America or the UK think that the variations are spelt 'wrong'

For example:

Color (US) /Colour (UK)
Capitol (US) /Capital (UK)
Tonite (US) /Tonight (UK)
Favorite (US) /Favourite (UK)

Have I missed any variations?

Well, I've never seen "tonight" spelled as "tonite" in any book or academic source. I've only seen it spelled that way on the internet in casual chatting.

Also the US Capitol building contains the 'O', but capital letters and capitals of states and countries are spelled with the 'A'.

I've seen people from the UK spell pajamas as "pyjamas" There's another for you.

You also say "spelt" - I say "spelled".

Yeah, I've never seen the word, 'tonight' unless used purposely spelled that way for the name of something.

Ahah okay. Yeah I would of said spelled too. Bad grammar on my part. Still very tired from Leeds Festival, and thanks for the heads up about 'Capitol' I guess I only knew about it from the 'Capitol building' the US isn't as alien as I originally thought.. My bad spelling has gone through the roof

Actually I know tons of British people who say "spelt" "learnt" etc. I don't think it's incorrect, it's just really uncommon here.

I think it's funny that "schedule" is spelled the way it is but pronounced as 'skedjull' by Americans and 'shedjull' by Brits.

Yeah I guess I always kinda saw that as part of the accents.

I don't pronnounce it with a 'sh' sound. I pronounce it with a 'sk' sound. Maybe it is to do with accents.

Tonight is never spelled "tonite", only in 80's hair metal liners written by coked-up retards.
