When taking a drug test for what ever reason, be sure that they know your medications. You will fail should you be taking any of these.
My husband was kind enough to share this list with us, in case you are
not aware. I was acused of using marijuana once, I was taking Tagamet.

Dilantin Barbituates

Protonix THC

Floxin opiates

Levaquin opiates

Imodium Methadone

Midrin amphetamines

Tequin opiates

Cardizem Methadone

BENADRYL PCP/Methadone/benzodiazepines

Norpace Methadone

Codeine opiates

Librium benzodiazepine

TAGAMET PCP

Fiorinal barbituates

Donnatal opiates

ZANTAC amphetamines

Tigan amphetamines

SUDAFED amphetamines

ZANTAZ amphetamines

TRIAMINIC DM amphetamines

TRIAMINIC NIGHTTIME amphetamines

This is a list from a rehab where my husband works in Intensive Outpatient Care. Scary thought, you have an ulcer take your Tagamet,
rushed to hospital for a bad cut, get accused of being on PCB.

Add poppy seeds to the list. They are sometimes put on bagels and things. You can fail a drugs test after 1 bagel. Apparently.

Also, you should always provide a list of your prescription meds when having a drug test. Some of the prescriptions that I've taken test positive as heroine, speed, or cocaine. I nearly lost a job until they checked the prescription drug list I gave the lab

I started back in the 80's while in the Navy and working with a variety of systems. I was getting a urinalysis randomly and frequently. There were several occasions where I got a positive due to things I had ingested or Meds I was taking.

I don't know how they could, unless you're referring to a hospital or doctor, and they can if it's part of a routine exam. Such as the exam that you might be given following an accident.

I think I'd always refuse to take a drugs test, someone told me once you can fail if you are with or around people taking drugs, which I am quite often. Would hate to fail based on the fact I was with people taking drugs.

You can always refuse, but if it's a job requirement, that would be a problem. Stay away from those friends for awhile before a test.
Also, if it's a legal issue, they can get a court order.

I'd take any test for any drug. I got no poison in my body. Except maybe an extraordinary amount of caffeine. God, I love coffee.
