At the end of last year the Australian police, or more so the Victorian Police, decided to bring in a trial for Drug Driving Testing. Like alcohol testing but for drugs obviously.

The test itself is designed to pick amphetamines(speed) and THC(active component in pot) and is saliva based. So you basically spit on this tab which then say whether or not you have either of those in your system. If the test is positive, they will then test you again, which then takes 14 day for that result to come in!! If you are positive on the final test, it's a $350 fine and loss of demerit points. Any subsequent fine after is about $1200 and 6 months loss of license.

As someone who has never driven drunk; but driven under the influence of other substances; i'm not sure how i feel about it. While i totally disagree with drink driving, im not sure that i agree with this new drug testing. While i understand that not all ppl can drive while under the influence of drugs, i don't think it's fair that they are being targeted. I mean what if someone slipped some speed into your drink and u didn't know, what then??

Does anyone else have this where they are?? what are you thoughts?

I do not know if this relates but in my opinion driving drunk on alcohol is alot worse that driving high....

I have only done meth once and I drove alot better than I did when I was drunk...which I did several times...

Not saying one is better than the other..

Yes well I totally think it's outrageous bringing in this Drug testing which has already failed down in Vic with that man who was proven for both speed and cannabis and he had said that he only had a smoke on an occasional weekend i've never taking speed in my life...so he went to get his own drug test .. he passed and disproved the police results. The police wouldn't give him an offical apology to him or his family.. I hope he does take them to court to prove them a lesson. So who is going to get tested? I'll tell you who will be looked at, men with long hair, people with old cars, young people and anyone else that looks supicious. How about trying to prove for the more serious drugs like heroin , legal prescrpitons. Here's an idea why not test the judges, judiciory ,politicians why not set an example show us that your not under the influence of these drugs so the Australian people can be fully confident that our government is straight when making important legislation eg War against Iraq. It's always been illegal to drive under the influence of drugs besides alcohol, the only thing that seems different here is they made a test for it now. My question would be about how reliable the tests are at showing someone was under the influence at the time they were driving and not two days before.

Driving drunk and stoned is not a good thing, all though it was fun to do back in the day. But getting stoned and driving makes me drive really slow, and it also makes me stop by krispy kreme and buy doughnuts, and milk. Pizza works well to, but it takes to long to cook. As I age I would rather sit at home and do the bongo dance. Where is the stoned smiley face at.
