Forums: RandomDo you complain about bad service more than you praise good service? |

annski729![]() Washington, District of Columb | #1 I've noticed that most people have no problem writing in to complain about particularly bad service, but do you write in to praise people for particularly good service too? I really hate writing in to complain, and I usually do it as some kind of relief from the annoyance I've suffered from some sort of bad experience. Bolt Bus was my most recent complaint since I've been more and more dissatisfied with their service lately. But I really enjoy writing in to praise a particular person who works for a business or in a service. For example, just the other day this really nice bus driver stopped for me as I got off the first bus I took. Then she pulled around and noticed someone standing at the stop across the street who had just missed the bus, and she tried to get his attention and tell him to cross the street and she'd wait for him. She was also extremely nice to people on the bus - very cheerful and kind. I contacted the shuttle service management and wrote a nice email saying she was exceptionally kind, cheerful, and made my morning commute more bearable. They responded back saying they'd inform the driver and that they hung my email up in their break room. I also had a really good employee assist me in picking out teas when we were looking for my brother's wedding a few months ago (they are giving it out as guest favors). The girl behind the counter made us an entire pot of tea we were interested in that wasn't supposed to be out for taste-testing that day and we really appreciated it. She was also really pleasant and thoroughly enjoyed answering our questions. So, after we left, I emailed the manager and told him to congratulate her on a job well done.

| jonnythan Bringer of rad mirth ![]() Here and there, | #2 I never really write in to anywhere or anything like that, but in reality I am more likely to tell stories about good service than bad. For example, I recently wrote a glowing a review of a little diner in Syracuse because the service was just so good. I tip generously for very good meal service and tell my friends about it. I don't really complain about bad service except to say kyahbean. | ||||||

| eternus_somnium clinically crackers ![]() , United States (general) | #4 I've never sent in emails, but when I do get exceptional help or service I tell that person I really am grateful and appreciate it. If I get bad service, I usually just don't say anything and get out as fast as possible. There have been a couple times when I got great help and the manager/boss was around, so I made sure he/she either heard me complimenting the person or I would go over and make a comment directly to him/her. | ||||||

I prefer to thank the person who helped me in that moment, but I like sending in emails or letters afterwards too because getting praise from a manager is likely to be a positive experience in their day. I like to think that maybe my praise will lift their mood a few days later.

annski729![]() Washington, District of Columb | #9 @eternus_somnium Said ![]() That's true. I just never think about doing it! Yeah! It's a major boost for most people working and it's also a major boost for the person who writes the nice letter/email. I recall reading some studies that suggest people who have good things happen to them are more likely to help others and do kind things for others. It just puts everyone in a slightly better mood.
