I'm glad I mis-spell on TFS. It was the way the Christian Brother's taught us to abuse the English language.

But in work I also have spell check constantly on my computer.

I think it was planted there by those English to get their own back at me.

It is, treebs - although it just looks wrong.

either hippopotamus(es) or hippopotam(i)

Anyways... back to the topic. Regarding dictators and the tendency for them to sport a moustache.

I think it's more about a mindset than anything else. As for their preference... I can't really say, cos I don't know them personally. Perhaps they feel that the moustachioed look would give them a more powerful aura?

Somehow a moustache does make one look more fierce and intimidating. My ex boss shaved off his moustache one day - due to some religious ritual thing (he's a Sindhi)... and it instantly took years off his face!

Not to mention that it made him look somewhat 'vulnerable' as well.

at least you don't use text speak-that's a relief anyway.
Now,back to dictators and facial hair-could a tyrant sporting a rather dashing goatee be taken seriously?

Always??

I prefer to usually think of it as "sometimes". As and when the occasion calls for it.

On a tangent (somewhat) - these powerful men in history also tend to be "short". A generalisation, for what its worth, but nonetheless food for thought.

"first of all im going to be a political actavist or journalist"

Holy s***, dude.

You won't make it through your first "Introduction to Journalism" class if you don't have *pristine* written language skills.

Spell checker won't help a damn thing if you can't tell the difference between "John and I" and "me and John."

As for the "John and I" thing, it depends. People always use it incorrectly, but journalists - even local guys reporting live on TV - almost never do.

1) John and I went to the store.
2) Billy went to the store with me and John.
3) Me and John went to the store.
4) Billy went to the store with John and I.

Only 1 and 2 are correct, and you absolutely have to know this to get a job in the classifieds section of the local newspaper, much less launch a journalism career or get a degree in journalism.
