Slate article - Trump is unpopular and so is the GOP agenda

Interesting read. One of the few articles that have tackled the issue head on - as opposed to circling it, trying to get a grasp.

The reality is that the dems are in a world of hurt but there are some very serious cracks in this so called "mandate".

Quote:
Neither Trump nor congressional Republicans are as strong as they appear. Both enter the field with severe disadvantages, and both risk overplaying the hands that they have. Democrats are on the defensive, but the conditions are there for pushback and resurgence.

Quote:
Consider Trump’s favorability rating. On Election Day, just 38 percent of Americans had a positive view of Trump, against 60 percent with a negative view. Now, with the glow of victory, his average favorable rating stands at 43 percent, while 49 percent view him unfavorably. For comparison’s sake, Barack Obama entered office in 2009 with a 68 percent favorable rating versus 21 percent unfavorable, while George W. Bush—the victor in a contentious election decided by the Electoral College—entered office with a 50 percent favorable rating. Trump is historically unpopular for an incoming president and shows no signs of improving. This, coupled with his substantial loss in the national popular vote, is a potent vulnerability. Democrats can credibly say that Trump lacks the “will of the people.” They can rebuff charges of obstructionism, and they can say, with little exaggeration, that the public is on their side.

Intoxicated and emboldened by their near-miraculous victory, Republicans are rushing into the new year with a divisive and unpopular agenda,

I envisioned a bunch of monkeys breaking into a banana factory. It's entertaining at first, but you have this feeling that something is going to go wrong.

_____

Just because Trump or GOP is unfavorable, doesn't mean the Dems are favorable.

After what the republicans do... which we know what they want to do... the democrats may indeed be the favorable option.

I do think there are going to be benefits toward moving increasingly toward progressivism. Especially if we ever want to have a check on corporatism.

Yes, the favorable option - a kinder way of saying the lesser of two evils

... again

Not to sound trite... but that's what a lot of our world is made up of right? We rejected the lesser evil and got the greater evil.

Give me the lesser evil every and any day of the week. We rejected good because we wanted perfect. That's not... logical.
