They have a Genius bar at all the Apple stores. Buy a Mac there and let the Genius change all your old files over to your Mac. He can also answer any questions you have, and if a problem arises, they can typically fix it right there in the store for free (beat that ballmer!)
They also have these Workshops where you can go and learn about your Mac for free, and of course they have like a freaking course about the Mac on Apple.com.
For a fee, you can also schedule one-on-one time with an instructor to teach you about your Mac.
How nice is that.
Plus, if you want to dual-boot with Windows, PC-World has reviewed that the fastest Windows Vista notebook was a Mac. Also, Apple has the bootcamp application that will re-partition your hard drive for you without losing any of your files, and guide you through burning a Windows drivers disc and installing either XP or Vista.
And, if you have an external, or spare internal or spare partition availible, or want to buy a "Time Machine" which also functions as a wireless 802.11 Apple "AirPort" router, you can have Time Machine automatically make a backup of your Mac every hour so if you acidentially delete something, you can do this:
Which actually integrates quite nicely with the Mac version of explorer, called Finder. Press a button, that comes up, you can flip through time, get your file, and push a button to restore it.

28/NA/, Join Date: Oct 2008 | Xilmwa, many PC users feel that way about Dell, too. I can get equal horsepower from somewhere else, cheaper. This is how many AMD users have felt in the past when comparing to Intel processors. It's also how people have felt about printers, monitors, and everything under the sun. I buy meat from Winn Dixie because it's cheaper.
I've recommended people to buy each of the above more expensive products in specific situations. I've even recommended Macs before.
But the issue remains. Let's use a different genre. Would you say an Audi is cheaper than an Mercedes? Yes, because Audi also is Volkswagen, which is cheaper. So thus is Dell cheaper than Mac? Essentially, because you can get a generic Dell cheaper than a Mac, which there's no generic of. This was more in line with my post.
Yes, I buy the store brands of things. Especially from places like Save-A-Lot and Dollar Tree. I would die spending $4 on a bottle of Febreeze when I can get the same crap at Dollar Tree. I'm glad I can buy/build a generic PC too, from places like eBay and pricewatch.
I might get a mac laptop within the next year if I can afford it, but you will never see me defend its price. | | |
