I'm trying to get rid of a load of stuff because I haven't got room to defrag at the minute. What's Java all about? I never knowingly use it but I don't want to remove it and have my computer implode. Also, are there any windows components that NOBODY needs, least of all me, and that I can safely uninstall. Please excuse the usual ignorance.
I would not really advise uninstalling Java as it is embedded into many websites.
To be honest, all defragging does is spped the hard drive up and creates a tad more space. Its like say having a bag of sweets and taking one out of the bottom. when you shake it up the hole is filled... thus defragging, lol.

Hi Claud,
You can safely uninstall Java, run your defrag, and then download the latest version. (Then defrag again)
I have found a very quick low resource de-fragger that is vastly superior to the Windows native defragger.
Get it here:

Simple and intuitive interface makes it easy to use too.
Think of defragging like having cattle roaming the open range versus having them in a pen. Much easier to grab some milk when all your cows are in the correct location. Defragging rounds up all your directories and places them in their correct locations - some defraggers are smart enough to do this based on your personal usage and the programs you access most often. This one does just that.
Enjoy. | | |

Claudi, I strongly recommend against getting a third-party defragger. They're not worth the effort of downloading and installing. Many of them are very good, but they will accomplish nothing that the built-in one does not.
I agree totally. Also there is no need to uninstall then reinstall the latest Java as it will inform you when and if there is a new update available.

I've been building and selling custom built High Speed computers for customers since 1996. You're both mistaken.
Congratulations on your computer-building. It's kinda cute how you capitalized "High Speed" like it's the actual name of something and it somehow gives your advice more weight.

I'm not particularly au fait with the innards of my computer and I want to play safe. I assume what is already installed will do the job so I'll just use that at the minute, I think.

Get back to me when you get a clue, you obviously don't know jack s*** about computers, and based on your asinine posts, not much of anything else. | | |
