According to the Wikipedia article on Cysteine, it is effective at preventing hangovers by breaking down acetylaldehyde (the chemical breakdown of alcohol that causes hangover symptoms) into acetic acid which is harmless. By chance has anyone ever tried taking a cysteine supplements after drinking to see if it prevented or treated hangovers?

Interesting. I'd be happy to try it if I ever got hung over.

Never tried that before. My only suggestions are aspirin and lots of Gatorade. When you're hungover you're dehydrated and that's what usually causes the nasty headache. Ginger will help fight the nausea.

Sounds interesting. I might check that out for others. I don't get hangovers. I always drink a bottle of water before bed and take advil. Always works for me.

That's what I usually do but with aspirin and if I'm coherent enough.

It's not dehydration that causes a hangover, though it doesn't help. Acetylaldehyde causes the hangover symptoms, and drinking water helps flush it out of your system faster. But apparently Cysteine neutralizes it altogether.

I never drink, so I can't test it myself, but if that's true, Cysteine would come to be a very popular supplement.
