I have to laugh at people that point fingers at cows as being main players in the climate changes that are causing Global Warming. As if cow farts were far and above more intensely dangerous to the overall health of our planet than , any number of human activities such as fossil fuel burning or deforestation, solar radiation or volcanoes or the industrialised cities worldwide . Them damn cows we ought to just kill em all totally wipe out every single cow on the entire earth and It would wonderful when magically all our dilemma with the Global warming problem would just cease to happen and would never again worry us as we happily go around trashing out planet and pointing at cow farts as the real and true reasons for cause and effect of the climate changes .

To be fair even though they do produce large amounts of methane, we're the ones who have mass produced them in huge farms for fast food and everything else in the first place, so even if people do blame the cows, it's still the fault of the humans for making it so in the first place.

The problem is though is that nature is balanced so the fact that cows contribute is in fact our fault for breeding so many cows And also if we stopped burning fossil fuels that would make a hell of a lot more difference that killing all the cows

Point taken with the cows, we breed cows in order for them to be on our plates, and for people to complain about cows causing global warming is hypocrisy really

I wonder if someone took every cow on the entire planet and measured their 'farts' up against just one industrial country say like the USA during one 12 month time frame . Wonder which would come out as the top 'dog' in being a main player in the climate changes?
Believe me I really do point and laugh at some peoples perception of cause and effect, but I DO NOT find our problems of Global warming laughable at all in any way form nor fashion !!

"A 400-page United Nations report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) states that cattle farming is "responsible for 18% of greenhouse gases." The production of cattle to feed and clothe humans stresses ecosystems around the world, and is assessed to be one of the top three environmental problems in the world on a local to global scale."

Doesn't seem like any laughing matter to me.

It's not the amount of methane or arguing that not as much is produced as CO2, it's the fact that it's something like 20 times more harmful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

It's similar to people driving 'eco friendly' electric cars, where do they think the electricity comes from? Out of thin air maybe, no it comes from burning fossil fuels in power stations.

Also I saw something on TV the other day that said this new environmentally friendly bio-fuel is mostly made from palm tree oil which they clear vast areas of rain forest to grow.

As already mentioned, methane has a bigger 'greenhouse' effect than CO2.

I think I recall hearing something about people creating special feed for cows that reduces methane output If I didn't hear it, then maybe I need to develop it. I could make a butt-ton of money!

Basically all the signs point to us eating less beef. We all know red meat is not particularly good for us and should be eaten in moderation or get heart disease.

People are becoming less tolerant to dairy products.

Perhaps we have all the clues.

This is the same report that blames the cow for acid rain, the introduction of alien species, producing deserts, creating dead zones, poisoning rivers and destroying coral reefs.Just to mention a few of the claims in the report.
The 400-page report by the Food and Agricultural Organisation, entitled 'Livestock's Long Shadow,'

When the tests are run on the air quality at a large feed lot where the cattle are being fed a concentrated high-corn diet which produces rapid weight gain and increases the acidity in the digestive system and there are mountains or manure piled all around then yes the tests are going to show that cattle are responsible for a large % of climate changes.

Quote:
There has been public criticism of FAO for at least 30 years.

In May 2008, while talking about the ongoing world food crisis, President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal expressed the opinion that FAO was "a waste of money" and "we must scrap it".

When the air over any city of any size can be seen as a large filthy smelly cloud produced by millions of gallons of fossil fuel being burned by millions of people daily .Then you take into consideration that the report accessed cattle to be one of the top three environmental problems in the world on a local to global scale. At 18% of the cause of the climate changes causing Global warming maybe we need to be applying some thought to the other 82% of the causes to the problem also. IMO a farting cow is just a scape goat for the greedy control seeking world powers that want the money that the burning of fossil fuel produces .

Lets try to keep in mind the that fact that almost every living thing on the planet produces carbon dioxide .

Let's try to keep in mind that cows are not contributing to global warming because of their CO2 output. They're contributing because of their methane output. Perhaps some entrepreneur will find a way to hook a pipe up to a cow's a** and use the methane emissions to generate electricity.

You know if some one could convince them folks in India to start eating them cows and stop worshipping them ,that should do a lot to help slowing down the global warming. I read somewhere that out of all the cows on the earth almost a 1/3 of them are in India.
