Strange- kinda thought it was created by the CEO's and energy barons.
Do you really believe that? The Government are the energy barons. Do you realize that 75% of the price of gas is taxes due to "regulation?" And as I have stated earlier the CEO's are opportunistic, either looking for yield, or security.

You'll have to link. I've always known it to be from the upper teens to the mid 20%.

Hey, I've got to go to bed. But really shinobinoz, it really was nice having a civilized conversation with you. You all have a good night.

You are talking about overt taxation and not the amount of government mandated regulations which are paid for by the company and then passed on to the consumer. This is the same principle which has kept airfare as high as it is and stifled American agriculture, all at the hands of the democrats. But unfortunately, due to the nature of the beast, as you say, and the spoils of war, no numbers can be quoted to any degree of accuracy because, we only hear what the "man" wants us to.

In New York, the state collects about 40 cents per gallon, the feds collect about 18.4 cents per gallon, and the county collects anywhere from 8 to 20 cents per gallon, for a total of around 74 or so cents per gallon on average. Total around 27% of the price you pay for gasoline is tax.
NY is on the higher end of things. National average appears to be 20-23% or so. | | | Edited: November 05, 2009 @ 14:04

As I said, upper teens to the mid 20's. Coolhand wants to tout 75% without providing any proof.

I believe they get fuel taxes that high in the UK, but not the US.
Though they are very high in the US as well.
