For those of you who are agenst animal testing here is a list of companies and products you can thank. I included thier numbers too. Give them a call and tell them how much you have enjoyed their products and how due to your moral stand point you will stop using thier products.

You left out pretty well all the major governments of the world, who test military
projects, chemical weapons, drugs etc. on animals as well.

Unintelligible!

Ok, so I take it you are against animal testing. But what type of animal testing? All? Including testing on mice and rats? If companies didn't test products on mice and rats, who would they test them on? The consumer or maybe prisoners, or maybe children in third world countries.

What do you surmise to do about it besides post a list of the major companies in the USA?
Do you wear deodorant? use shampoo? laundry soap? toothpaste?
Do you have pets? Do you feed them pet food? Did you know there are dogs and cats that are tested with these pet foods for quality?

If you do use any of these products, what brands do you use? Are you positive they aren't tested on animals? How were they tested for reactions and allergies?

Would you be willing to be a test subject for products?

Just curious. I always wonder how extremists determine what they are fighting for and if they have all the information to make a stand or just a bit of information.

Mermaid makes a very good point.

Plus, most companies all over the world use animal testing. There's no getting away from it and it can be very difficult to find a product which doesn't involve some form of animal testing.

The point I made was, nearly every single form of product that you buy at the store was at one point force fed, smeared on or shoved up an animal at some point to find out if it would kill you.

Animal testing will continue as long as people live on this planet. The animals are unwilling participants to me getting "that perfect shave" (thanks Bic Co.).

If animals would get some sort of rights to not be tested any longer, we would simply need to use people to test our products on.

Its a tuff world! And no matter how much your pet dog Fluffy gives off that aura that he is the only one who really understands you. I would feed him deodorant sticks for a year strait to make sure I won't get a rash.

yeah but it's often a precursor to human testing anyway. if we skip the middleman, companies would have to make profit MORE SLOWLY.

we'd have to do proper human trials like they already do for medicines far more dangerous than smearing tiny bits of aluminum and goo under your arm, which probably isn't the best idea even if we do live through it. (i sweat a lot, so i use it too.) my suggestion? if you volunteer you get a lifetime supply. i can think of all kinds of ways to make businesses more expensive, while decreasing the number of victims they create. they aren't interested for some reason.

I would love to see a list of products that didn't make it past the animal testing step, and why.

I'm sure its huge list of animal injuries/deaths. Just think those deaths/injuries would be on people.

There was a movie called "A day without a Mexican". It was a dramatization of what the world would be like without a single mexican to do your gardening, garbage, cooking, cleaning.. yada yada you get the point.

But if someone made a movie called "A day without a Lab Rat/monkey/dog".

Watching a doctor try and convince a human subject to infect himself with AIDS so he could try out a new idea that has a .5% chance of even doing anything. It would be a interesting movie.

i am not 100% against animal testing for important medical breakthroughs. maybe i just hate rats.

on the subject of product safety beyond life and death, i wonder what would happen if the products became open source like cola is? there are plenty of things we could put in our hair that we would know would be safe if they got into our eyes, because they're made of natural ingredients that are safe. but if we're going to put things like bi-products and animal urea (pretty safe, and pretty common) in our hair, i guess you have to smear it into the eyes of a rabbit, too. just to be safe. maybe i'm simple for thinking it's gone too far...

You appear to be saying that you would torture someone else's pet for your own benefit. Is it just about power and power relations is it?

If that's how we are to run things, what's to stop Unilever grabbing you off the street as a test subject?

Since you seem to have a simplistic understanding of animal experimentation, try this cartoon: link [www.testingtoday.info]

There are laws mandating what the companies can and can't do during their testing.
I think in previous years, say 30 years ago, animal testing was very harsh but the companies have to follow guidelines now and they are checked frequently for following those guidelines.
We have a local company that tests dog and cat food primarily Iams brand. The company is well known for treating their animals very well and the public is invited to come in and see the animals and they encourage people to come and play and interact with them.
So, animal testing is not always the severe photos you see online.
That's not to say there aren't places in other countries that they follow guidelines. I seriously doubt some of the third world countries would follow any care towards animals. They don't even follow any kind of care towards their own people.
And any country that can skin a live cat or dog to cook and eat.......let's not even go there.

needlessly condescending reply, but great link. here's another you've probably seen: link [meatrix.com] i've only seen the first one, there are sequels these days. EDIT: okay, maybe not too needlessly.

Do you have no sympathy for the researchers who have to experiment on animals that they have been caring for and looking after? Why are those people, who make huge emotional sacrifices, ignored by both sides of the debate?

ethicsectomies are sad procedures, yeah, i do feel for them, but not for the reasons you think i should. i like how you use the words "have to," you've already taken their responsibility away. i'm sure that serial killers have to do the same thing. the more i hear your style of arguing, the more i think you could grow up to be a superb fascist. you can justify **anything** in the name of science, but any argument about its limitations seem to just fly right over you. and hell, we can't even make decisions anyway, according to you. the whole mindset is a frightening thing to witness, and worse to imagine. the more i read what you say, i think you would be very happy and maybe even given a little power in china.
